To receive a free fan, a person must be a resident of Rutherford County, must be an adult 60 or older or an adult with a disability. The program, made possible by Dominion Resources, Duke Energy Carolinas and Duke Energy Progress, is intended to provide a more comfortable living environment and reduce heat related illness. The contest begins July 1 and continues through Thursday, August 31. Summer is the busiest hiking season of the year, and park staff are continuing the celebration of North Carolina State Parks' Year of the Trail. Prizes will be awarded to three winning entires. 1st Prize: The winning photo will be the Facebook cover photo for two weeks, and the photographer will receive two annual passes to Chimney Rock State Park and lunch for four at the Old Rock Café. After the fi rst place photo, the second place photo will be the Facebook cover photo for one week. The photographer will receive one annual pass to Chimney Rock State Park and lunch for two at the Old Rock Café. The third place photographer will receive two adult day passes (or one family pack of day passes) to Chimney Rock State Park and lunch for two at the Old Rock Café. There is no fee to enter the contest. All photographs must be taken of Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park only in areas accessible to guests between July 1, 2023- August 31. The contest is open to amateur and professional photographers. Up to three photos per person can be submitted. Winners will be notifi ed personally and announced on Chimney Rock's social media.
