Brainerd Dispatch • June 25 - July 1, 2023 •19 "I'm a Virgo" - Season 1 Prime Video's darkly comedic new series "I'm a Virgo" makes its premiere on the Amazon-owned streaming platform Friday, June 23. A fantastical, coming-of-age joyride, the series follows Cootie (Jharrel Jerome, "Moonlight," 2016), a 13-foot-tall young Black man living in Oakland, California. After being hidden away for most of his life and growing up with only comic books and TV for company, Cootie escapes to experi- ence everything the outside world has to offer. As he forms friendships, finds love and meets his idol, the se- ries "is a mythical odyssey that questions the purpose of the mythical odyssey" (Per Prime Video). Directed and written by Boots Riley ("Sorry to Bother You," 2018), "I'm a Virgo" is also written by Tze Chun ("Go- tham"), Marcus Gardley ("The Chi"), first-time screen- writer Whitney White and composer and playwright Michael R. Jackson (Broadway's "A Strange Loop"). "American Sniper" (2014) The Oscar Award-winning film, "American Sniper" (2014) will be available to stream as of Wednesday, June 21, on Prime Video. Based on the 2012 memoir "American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History," by Chris Kyle, Jim DeFelice and Scott McEwen, the film was directed by renowned filmmaker Clint Eastwood ("Gran Torino," 2008), featuring both Kyle and McEwan as writers. Starring Bradley Cooper ("Silver Linings Playbook," 2012) as Chris Kyle's fictional counterpart, the film follows as Kyle – a Navy S.E.A.L. sniper with pinpoint accuracy and a penchant for saving lives, dubbed a legend by his comrades – returns home to his family between serving multiple tours of duty. While at home with his wife, Taya (Sienna Miller, "Anatomy of a Scan- dal"), and their two children, Kyle finds he has trouble adjusting to civilian life. He struggles to leave the war behind, stuck between his duty as a husband and a fa- ther, and that of a soldier. Each time he leaves, Kyle re- turns more distant, and soon finds he must decide once and for all whether he should return home for good. "Break Point" - Season 1, Part 2 Netflix's all-access tennis documentary, "Break Point," continues its first season with Part 2, available to stream Wednesday, June 21. The series follows some of the biggest names from the world of tennis as they compete in ATP, WTA and other international tourna - ments, from their intense training regimens to their grueling (often sweltering) Grand Slam runs. Cameras follow these top athletes as they experience triumph and tragedy, all while managing the demands of their everyday lives. Featuring a new generation of play - ers as some of the sport's greatest legends reach the twilight of their careers, viewers have the chance to get up close and personal with their favorite stars — including Felix Auger-Aliassime, Paula Badosa, Matteo Berrettini, Casper Ruud, Nick Kyrgios, Frances Tiafoe, Taylor Fritz, Iga Swiatek, Thanasi Kokkinakis and Ste - fanos Tsitsipas — as they compete to be the best in the world. The series also features appearances from tennis legends John McEnroe, Maria Sharapova and Andy Roddick. James Gay-Rees ("Amy," 2015) and Paul Martin ("Formula 1: Drive to Survive") act as executive producers. "Through My Window: Across the Sea" (2023) The sequel to the hit Netflix film "Through My Win - dow," called "Through My Window: Across the Sea," will be the first of two sequels in the franchise to make its streaming debut, premiering Friday, June 23, on Netflix. Based on the original story by Ariana Godoy, the sequel continues where the first film left off, fol - lowing the love story of young Ares (Julio Pena, "Bia" ) and Raquel (Clara Galle, "The Boarding School: Las Cumbres"). As Ares has been studying in Stockholm, Sweden, the two have been navigating unexpected difficulties and strains on their still young relationship, all of which come to a head when summer reunites the pair in Costa Brava, an idyllic coastal town in Spain, for an unforgettable vacation. Time with each other – along with friends new and old – puts their fledgling romance to the test, potentially determining whether the pair will last another change of season. The film will also see some returning cast from the first installment of the series, including Eric Masip ("Alba") and Hugo Arbués ("Through My Window," 2022), returning as Ares' brothers; Natalia Azahara ("Through My Win - dow," 2022) as Daniela; and Guillermo Lasheras ("The Laws of the Border," 2021) as Yoshi.
