We are encouraged to bring our petitions to the Lord each day (Philippians 4:6). What a blessing it is when we pray for something and He answers us accordingly. But, what happens when our prayers go unanswered? If we are not careful, this will cause us to question our faith and even be tempted to turn from Him. There should be no doubt that our Heavenly Father hears the prayers of those who are His, and desires to meet their needs, but we must understand that He has knowledge and wisdom that we could never comprehend. Isaiah writes in chapter fi fty-fi ve, that God's ways are not our ways and that His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. Therefore, there are times that we must exercise trust and let God be God. His sovereign plan is always best, even though we may not totally understand the what or the why of His decision. Although, God may not answer our prayer in the way we desire, He has promised to give us grace enough to withstand our trial (II Corinthians 12:9). During our weakness, He lovingly gives us His strength. There is no better testimony than a Christian who endures hardship with the peace and joy of God. In His eternal wisdom, our God will sometimes withhold an answer to our prayer for a greater purpose. The mature child of God will be able to say as Job did, "Though He (God) slay me, yet will I trust in Him." Job 13:15.
