Nationally acclaimed artist, Chris Pierce, will kick off the Heritage Music Series on June 1 at 6pm. Chris has performed worldwide with artists B.B. King, Keb'Mo, Seal, Colbie Callait, and more. He gained national recognition in his own right when his hit co-write, "We Can Always Come Back to This," aired on NBC's primetime series "This is Us" and went on to become #1 on the Billboard Blues Chart. His recent album, "American Silence," was named #1 Best Folk Album of 2021 by PopMatters. Executive Director, Rebecca Hart, says "We are honored to bring nationally acclaimed artists like Chris Pierce to Catawba County. If you enjoy soulful blues, you don't want to miss Chris Pierce live at Hart Square!" Since 1977, the North Carolina Arts Council's Grassroots Arts Program has provided North Carolina citizens access to quality arts experiences. Using a per capita based formula, the program provides funding for the arts in all 100 counties of the state through partnerships with local arts councils. Rutherford County serves as the North Carolina Arts Council's partner in awarding subgrants to local organizations for arts programs in Rutherford County. The following criteria must be met: • Must have been in operation for at least one year. • While nonprofi t 501(c)(3) status is preferred, organizations that are nonprofi t in nature may also apply. Must reside and carry out projects within Rutherford County. • Individuals are not eligible to apply. Funds are not generally awarded to arts o r g a n i z a t i o n s that receive funding through the North Carolina Arts Council's State Arts Resources • Grants are to fund high-quality arts activities and programming in the County. • Funding priority is given to qualifi ed arts organizations (theaters, galleries, choral societies, festivals), arts in education programs conducted by qualifi ed artists, & other community organizations that provide arts programs in the county. • Grant recipients must match their grant amounts dollar for dollar. The application deadline is July 15 at 5 p.m. and funded projects must occur between July 1, 2023-July 15, 2024.
