Rutherfordton Kiwanis Club hosted its annual auction recently in the Public Works Maintenance facility off Cleghorn Street with auctioneers Keith Norville (pictured), Jay Norville and Barry Ruppe. Approximately $15,000 was raised to support the Kiwanis projects. The Kiwanis Club is also selling footpath bricks to be used in areas where children's activities are held, such as parks. All net proceeds from the brick sales will be used for park additions and children's projects. Cost varies according to the number of words and the size of the bricks, ranging from $100 to $175 per brick. Annual Kiwanis Club auction held During National Nursing Home Week recently several nursing centers in the area had special events throughout the week. At Fair Haven in Bostic, Bruce Hendrick presented a program of music for residents. During some of the songs he also played the piano and was joined by the residents in singing. The Christopher Ebert Marine Corps League members Troy Stanley and Bill (Gunny) Swope of Forest City, also visited residents at Fair Haven and led in the singing of God Bless America. National Nursing Home Week observed Bruce Hendrick A joint scholarship being offered by the NAACP and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and established by the United Negro College Fund is available for students across the country. Applications are open and will close on June 29. The scholarship program provides need- based, renewable scholarships to Black/ African American college sophomores enrolled full-time and attending an accredited four-year U.S. college or university beginning Fall 2023. Fresh greens and other produce sold to WCOC is in conjunction with the Farm to Pantry Program supported by a grant from Rutherford County Endowment Foundation. Hundreds of food boxes are distributed at WOCC each Thursday and Friday. New summer hours start June 1st to help distribute food and beat the heat, switching hours to 8 am - Noon.
