Entertainment Now | May 13 - 19, 2023 By Raye Smith TV Media WHAT'S NEW ON APPLE TV+ "High Desert" - Season 1 Take the chance to start fresh with the new Apple TV+ dark com- edy "High Desert" when it pre- mieres its first three episodes Wednesday, May 17. New epi- sodes air weekly on Wednesdays. An on-again-off-again addict liv- ing in the small desert town of Yuc- ca Valley, California, Peggy (Patricia Arquette, "Severance") makes the decision to make some major changes in her own life after the death of her beloved mother (Ber- nadette Peters, "Mozart in the Jun- gle"). Taking on a bold new ven- ture, the story follows Peggy as she becomes a private investigator. From Apple Studios, the series is created and written by Nancy Fich- man ("Grace and Frankie"), Katie Ford ("Miss Congeniality," 2000) and Jennifer Hoppe ("Grace and Frankie") and directed by Jay Roach ("Trumbo," 2015). The se- ries also stars Matt Dillon ("Way- ward Pines"), Christine Taylor ("Zoolander," 2001), Weruche Opia ("I May Destroy You"), Brad Garrett ("Everybody Loves Ray- mond"), Rupert Friend ("Pride & Prejudice," 2005), Keir O'Donnell ("Fargo"), Jayden Gomez ("Crazy Wonderful," 2018), Jeffrey Vincent Parise ("Supernatural"), Julia Rick- ert ("Tuning In") and Kellen Joseph ("The Walking Dead: World Be- yond"). "High Desert" is executive produced by Arquette, Fichman, Ford, Hoppe and Roach, alongside Ben Stiller ("Zoolander," 2001), Nicholas Weinstock ("Severance"), John Cameron ("Fargo"), Jackie Cohn ("In the Dark"), Tom Lassally ("Edge of Tomorrow," 2014) and Molly Madden ("The Starter Wife"). WHAT'S NEW ON NETFLIX "Selling Sunset" - Season 6 The hustle to be the best and brightest in California's luxury real estate market continues when Season 6 of the smash-hit reality series "Selling Sunset" premieres on Netflix Friday, May 19. With new agents, new drama and even more ultra-luxurious properties, this new season promises to come back in with a bang as the crew from The Oppenheim Group bring all of their personal and professional drama to the small screen. As owners and twin brothers Jason and Brett Op- penheim work to stay at the top of L.A.'s high-end real estate world, real estate agents Chrishell Stause, Heather El Moussa, Davina Potratz, Mary Fitzgerald, Chelsea Lazkani, Emma Hernan and Amanza Smith return to the screen as they bal- ance their cutthroat work lives with new relationships, expanding families and (as always) a wealth of personal drama. And while se- ries regulars Christine Quinn, Maya Vander and Vanessa Villela will not be returning to the cast for the new season, audiences will be treated to the arrival of Bre Tiesi and Nicole Young for Season 6. The series comes from executive producer Adam DiVello, known for his work on fellow drama-packed reality shows "The Hills" and "Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County." WHAT'S NEW ON HULU "White Men Can't Jump" (2023) Come together to win it all with the modern remake of the hit 1992 sports comedy "White Men Can't Jump" when the new Hulu Origi- nal film premieres Friday, May 19, on the streamer. While the 1992 film starred Woody Harrelson ("True Detective") and Wesley Snipes ("Blade," 1998) as the orig- inal streetball hustlers, this new it- eration stars multi-platinum rap superstar Jack Harlow ("First Class") in his film debut, alongside "American Soul," "Power" and "Teen Wolf" star Sinqua Walls as Jeremy and Kamal. While Jeremy is a former basketball star whose ca- reer was stalled by injuries, Kamal is a once-promising player who de- railed his own future in the sport. As the pair of hustlers take on the Los Angeles courts, the two — seemingly completely opposite — men learn they may have more in common than they could have ever imagined. From 20th Century Stu- dios, "White Men Can't Jump" is directed by Calmatic ("House Par- ty," 2023), written by Kenya Barris and Doug Hall (both of "Black- ish") and based on the original story by Ron Shelton ("Bull Dur- ham," 1988). WHAT'S NEW ON PRIME "Primo" - Season 1 Catch a slice of Texan life in the new Freevee original series "Primo," premiering on Prime Video Friday, May 19. From cre- ator Shea Serrano ("Hip Hop: The Songs That Shook Ameri- ca"), "Primo" is a single-camera coming-of-age comedy inspired by Serrano's own experiences growing up in San Antonio. The series follows teenager Rafa Gonzales (Ignacio Diaz-Silverio, "A Good Person," 2023), who is being raised in the city by his mother, Drea (Christina Vidal, "The Terminal List") and his five overbearing uncles — Rollie (Johnny Rey Diaz, "Grey's Anato- my"), Mike (Henri Esteve, "Grown-ish"), Ryan (Carlos San- tos, "Gentefied"), Jay (Jonathan Medina, "Walker: Indepen- dence") and Mondo (Efrain Villa, "Better Call Saul"). As Rafa nears the end of high school, finds the girl of his dreams and works on his very real chance to be the first person in his family to go to college, "Primo" finds Rafa, his family, his friends (and his crush) affecting each other's lives in unexpected ways, help- ing them all to grow whether they like it or not. Executive pro- duced by Serrano, Michael Schur ("Parks and Recreation"), David Miner ("Brooklyn Nine-Nine"), Morgan Sackett ("The Good Place"), Peter Murrieta ("Wiz- ards of Waverly Place") and Lisa Muse Bryant ("Black-ish"), the series also stars relative new- comer Stakiah Lynn Washington, Martin Martinez ("Magnum P.I."), Nigel Siwabessy ("Stop the Bleeding!"), Adela Paez ("9- 1-1"), Mimi Fletcher ("Waco: The Aftermath"), Melinna Boba- dilla ("Orange is the New Black") and Bobby Daniel Rodri- guez ("SEAL Team"). 10 | Streaming Waltman Flooring 2 x 2" Family Services 2 x 1.5" Patricia Arquette stars in "High Desert" Kokomo Speedway 2 x 2" Friendship Haven 2 x 2"
