18 ENTERTAINMENT EXTRA Royal Center Locker Plant 1 x 9" By Caroline Collacutt TV Media T emperatures are rising, sea- sons are changing and "Baking Championship" is back and hotter than ever, with a new, drool-worthy, sweat-induc- ing competition on its way. "Summer Baking Championship" premieres Monday, May 15, on Food Network. This time, the heat is on, as 10 talented bakers from across the U.S. take part in the cham- pionship. They'll be tasked with a series of summer-themed baking challenges that feature the flavors, ingredients and cel- ebrations that must elicit the sunny feelings summer brings. Jesse Palmer, of "The Bachelor" fame, serves as host, guiding viewers through the action as the contestants create the most delectable desserts in hopes of impressing this sea- son's judges: Duff Goldman ("Duff Takes The Cake"), Carla Hall ("The Chew") and Damaris Phillips ("Southern at Heart"). In the end, only one can earn the title of "Summer Baking Champion," along with the $25,000 grand prize. Starting off the season with some beachy fun, the bakers are asked to craft a dozen doughnuts made to look like water floaties, each including an added 3D element – tiny sugar flip-flops and chocolate sunglasses encouraged. Whoever melts the competition gains an advantage for the next challenge – the "main heat," where bakers must present a cake that utilizes a gelatin water feature. As the summer rolls on, the championship sees bakers ele- vating classics like ice cream sandwiches, s'mores, cobbler and cream pies, facing chal- lenges that highlight the very best summer has to offer, from farm-fresh fruit to endless out- door activities. The bakers even pay homage to an upcoming summer hit, making pink treats in honor of the upcoming Warner Bros. film "Barbie," which is set to release in the- aters on July 21, 2023. Finally, it's a fireworks-wor- thy finale, as the remaining contestants celebrate America's birthday by baking and decorat- ing a moving, two-tiered cake that resembles a Fourth of July parade float. (That's right – a moving cake float.) Competition, treats and the sweetest of eats — "Summer Baking Championship" packs everything you need for a sea- son of fun in the sun, inviting you to sit down, relax and enjoy when it premieres Monday, May 15, on Food Network.
