Press DisPatch Page 14 Thursday, May 11, 2023 SCHOOL To submit photos Email: sherri@pressdispatch.net Indian Moments From the desk of Principal Rick King, Petersburg Elementary School I would like to begin by saying, "Thank You" to our community and families for your sup- port this school year. I am con- tinually re- minded of how fortu- nate we are to live in a community where you do not have to go far to find people that deeply care about others. The strength of our community has a lot to do with the strength of our character. Once again, that is why we emphasize kindness and respect at PES. We are all learning and growing. So, none of us have attained perfection or all knowledge. Every year, public schools in Indiana are required to submit a school im- provement plan to the Indiana Department of Education. This is not because of a deficit in anything. The pur- pose is to help guide schools to find ways to strengthen our academ- ic programs or other ini- tiatives. We are down to just a few days of school left in the 2022-2023 school year. I also want to say, "Thank You" to the teachers and staff at PES for everything you have done this year. I appreciate the passion and love I see here every day. We are blessed to have so many amazing people. We face many challenges, as do our families and kids. We must con- tinue to work together for our kids. It takes a concentrated focus and sacrifices, but our kids need us, all of us in the community. Our fifth grade stu- dents are finishing out their elementary years these last few days. They have a few activi- ties planned in addition to their regular class- room lessons. They will go to Pike Central for some orientation activities to the middle school. They will take a fun field trip to Holiday World. The fifth grade graduation and DARE graduation will be May 16 at 6:30 p.m. Fifth grade will also take part in the field day activities we will have on the last day of school, May 23. We certainly wish them the best. The other grade lev- els will also finish up their grade level activi- ties. That will include a field trip for most grade levels. Some have al- ready taken theirs. Our preschools will have graduations. We will have a school wide PBIS activity next week. All grade levels will par- ticipate in the field day activities. EVERYONE HAVE AN ENJOYABLE AND SAFE SUMMER!
