18 ENTERTAINMENT EXTRA Royal Center Locker Plant 1 x 9" By Caroline Collacutt TV Media F ood and wine specialist Antoni Porowski ("Queer Eye") has made an impres- sive career for himself, at first bolstering his resume with nothing more than a few hundred hours clocked in his home kitchen. Now, the foodie-turned- celebrity has two shows, two cookbooks and 4.3 million Instagram followers to his name, as Porowski continues to share his passion for food with everyone, from home cooks and fellow chefs to (sometimes begrudging, sometimes eager) "Queer Eye" heroes — in fact, a new season of "Queer Eye" arrives Thursday, May 7, on Netflix. Before being whisked into the spotlight, Porowski was a budding model living in New York City, moonlighting as a private chef. There, he was hired by a name familiar to diehard "Queer Eye" fans – none other than Ted Allen, the food and wine expert for the original Fab Five. (Before Antoni and before Netflix, there was "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy," both the pre- decessor and inspiration for the "Queer Eye" reboot that began in 2018.) It was while working for Allen that Porowski heard of Netflix's upcoming revival and, thanks to his obvious skill, was offered the opportunity to audition. Fast-forward seven seasons and Porowski – along with "Queer Eye" co-hosts Jonathan Van Ness, Karamo Brown, Tan France and Bobby Berk – is an essential part of one of Netflix's most decorat- ed reality shows, breaking records with five consecutive Emmy wins. He also served as host and executive producer of another Netflix show: 2022's "Easy Bake Battle." The accolades don't stop there. Porowski's first cook- book, "Antoni in the Kitchen," debuted at No. 2 on the New York Times Bestseller list when it was released in 2019. Recently, Porowski embarked on a pandemic-delayed book tour to promote his second cookbook, "Antoni: Let's Do Dinner," which hit shelves in 2021 and is packed with mouth-watering recipes. More tips, tricks and reci- pes are sure to come when chef Antoni and the other members of the Fab Five take to the streets of New Orleans for Season 7 of "Queer Eye," premiering Friday, May 12, on Netflix.
