Email your community happening to: events@rutherfordweekly.com This is the time of year when more and more public events begin to happen in Rutherford County. There are opportunities for Rutherford County to get outdoors and enjoy concerts, music, movies and of course, hiking, walking, paddling and cycling. Last weekend Rutherford County celebrated the 35th anniversary concert of the Symphony of Rutherford County. There are so many good things happening. Among the most amazing opportunities we have here this week is the visit from Uganda's Dance of Hope, "Changing the World 2023 USA Tour." Sponsored by Dreaming Stone Arts and Ecology Center (DSAEC), Rutherfordton the Dance of Hope visited Thomas Jefferson and Lake Lure classical academies, Grahamtown Community Center earlier this week. On Friday, May 5 beginning at 6:30pm there is a great opportunity for the public to see Dance of Hope in downtown Rutherfordton at the Food Art and Brew event. Under the mentorship of DSAEC's Chinobay, Dance of Hope, has become Africa's leading youth-based arts education program. According to their Facebook post, "they are joyous performers and thoughtful cultural ambassadors - embodying the ways that art and culture can support healthy lives and communities." Their visit here and other areas of the country is in conjunction with DSAEC's artist residency program. According to a report of a recent visit to the Heyde Center for the Arts at Chippewa Valley Cultural Association in Wisconsin the writer says: From the very fi rst drumbeat you will be lifted through a breathtaking and exhilarating journey to the soul of Africa, showcasing the colorful clothing and sounds of traditional Ugandan musical instruments. Uganda's Dance of Hope is Africa's leading youth- based arts education program that captures the messages of hope and resilience emanating from memorable stage productions, cross- cultural programs, and youth educational outreach. This program explores the primal transforming power of music, dance and storytelling by empowering, inspiring and connecting young people and communities globally, while bringing awareness and raising support to provide quality education for children living in developing countries and improving the way of life for their families. Dance of Hope is operated by M-LISADA, a nonprofi t organization and children's center based in Kampala, Uganda and World Bridge Foundation, a 501(c)3 arts education nonprofi t organization based in the United States. Dance of Hope strives to inspire, empower and connect young people and communities globally, while raising support to provide quality education for children living in impoverished communities and improving the quality of life for their families. Plan to visit this event Friday night. Sounds like it will be an experience all of us can enjoy. (Dreaming Stone Arts and Ecology Center (DSAEC) located off Pleasant Hill Road, Rutherfordton, is a learning and cultural center building strategies for community resilience and propagating cultural and biological diversity).
