Born August 3, 1937 in Saginaw, Michigan, he was a son of the late Everett and Mary Paul Bradley McCallum. Dick started his career at Michigan Bell, mar- ried Joan Baser in 1978 and moved to New Jersey to work for AT&T. Upon retire- ment, Dick and Joan moved to Lake Lure, NC. In addition to his wife, Dick is survived by his chil- dren, Brenda Miniclier (Joe), Richard McCallum (Anne), Jill McCallum; fourteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and three on the way; two step- sons Kenneth Mundt (Kathy), Kevin Mundt (Michelle); and siblings Howard Gould and Millie Gould. Dick was a member of Forest City Church of the Nazarene. Dick was a pri- vate pilot. He served on the Lake Lure Town Council for eight years. Memorial services were held April 21at Forest City Church of the Nazarene. Online condolences at www.crowemortuary.com Roger Webb Pilgrim Roger Pilgrim, 87, of Forest City, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2023. A native of Rutherford County, he was a son of the late General Ernest and Lucy Webb Pilgrim. Roger was retired from the US Air Force and was a member of Forest Lake Baptist Church. Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Lois Hooper Pilgrim; son Roger Webb Pilgrim Jr.; daughter Rebecca Lynn Bridgers; four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; brother, Joe Elliott Pilgrim. In addition to his par- ents, Roger was preceded in death by brothers Jack Harrill and G.E. Pilgrim, and sister Ernestine Pilgrim. Funeral services were held April 22, 2023 at Crowe's Funeral Chapel with Rev. Steve Smith offi- ciating, with military honors provided by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. Online condolences at www.crowemortuary.com Edith Carolyn Earley Edith Carolyn Earley, age 78, passed away Friday, April 21, 2023. Carolyn was born December 10, 1944 in Rutherford County to the late Britt Vickers and Margaret James Vickers. Carolyn was a gradu- ate of Chase High School, Shelby School of Practical Nursing and Gardner-Webb University. She worked for Cleveland Regional Medical Center for 44 years. She was a longtime member of Caroleen United Methodist Church. She had a heart for others and showed it by sending sym- pathy cards to grieving fam- ilies while working as a vol- unteer for Hospice. Those left to cherish fond memories are her hus- band, Leroy Earley; son, Scott Earley (Christie) of Anderson, SC and Anita Earley (Ricky) of Ellenboro and four grandchildren. Arlene Landes Kenter Arlene Landes Kenter, 86, of Rutherfordton, NC passed away April 21, 2023. She was born October 17, 1936, in Telford, PA, to the late Jacob and Florence Rosenberger Landes. Arlene was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Richard Kenter in 2018. Arlene was also pre- ceded in death by her brothers Charles, Clayton, Richard, Russell, and Ivan Landes and sisters Doris Landes and Esther Getz. Arlene is survived by her children, Randy Slonaker of Williamsport PA, Robin Sheriff and husband Mark of Shelby, and Richard "Rick" Kenter and wife Christina of Rutherfordton, as well as siblings Mae and husband Frank Schaffer and Gerald Landes, two grandchil- dren, and two great-grand- children, along with many nieces and nephews. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dianne Russell, Rutherford Lifecare, Life Enrichment Center of Cleveland County, and Hospice Cleveland County. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to any of the above organizations. A private service will be held for the family. Obituaries Obituaries Obituaries Obituaries R-S Central High School art students have a display of their work in the window at the Rutherford County Visual Arts Center (RCVAC) at 160 N. Main Street in Rutherfordton. The 12 pieces, both 2-D and 3-D, were created by art students Payton Ballard, Imelia Roach, Katie Clontz, Jaxson Stanley, Kaylee Searcy, Ciara Burnett, Hallie Hill. Katerina Steppe, Miranda Keever, Kelsey Tate. A reception was held for the students and their parents Wednesday afternoon hosted by Art Center staff,volunteers and R-S art teacher Makayla Beam. The window exhibit goes through May 13. Beam said she has approximately 180 students in her art classes offering two dimensional and ceramics. Another group of Beam's art students painted the mural in downtown Rutherfordton recently. RCVAC director Deborah Harmon is encouraging Rutherford County High School seniors to apply for an art scholarship provided by the RCVAC.
