This past fall, she moved into her dream home on the South Carolina coast, where she recently completed filming the the eighth season of her Food Network series "Delicious Miss Brown" (which included its milestone 100th episode). Also that October, she released her first book, "The Way Home: A Celebra- tion of Sea Islands Food and Family With Over 100 Recipes," which quickly made its way onto the New York Times bestseller list. Brown had been considering writing a book for the past four years but like with many things these days, the idea really got legs during the pandemic. After she was ap- proached by an editor at Harper Collins to do a book in 2020, she found herself spending the next nearly two years developing and testing recipes, many of which were her interpreta- tions of family recipes. The final product is dedicated to the place where her love of food took hold, the Sea Islands of South Carolina and Georgia, and those who taught her how to cook. "I grew up in a family where my great-grandmother and my grandmother never wrote their recipes down," Brown explains. "And so I realized this is my opportunity to pay homage to my grandmother and my great-grandmother, and this is a place where some of their recipes and my interpretations of their recipes could live. "And so that's why I knew that once this op - portunity came – and it did – that this cook- book would be based on that, and it would also give people a glimpse into who I am. You know, everyone knows 'Delicious Miss Brown' but I wanted people to see who Kardea Brown was as well." As for "Delicious Miss Brown," now in its eighth season on Sunday afternoons, she'll also be trying out a few ideas in her brand new kitchen. "I'm kind of doing a lot of fusion food so I'm mixing some of my Lowcountry spin," she explains. "I have an entire episode dedicated to Greek and Middle Eastern cuisine. We're going to do an episode where I go horseback riding with a friend, and so we're going to do like a (Kentucky) Derby theme.
