This Fellowship funds an Applied associ- ate degree in criminal jus- tice or other Committee approved field of study from any North Carolina Community College. The total value of the fellowship over two years is currently $6,304.00. Recipients who receive the educational loan have five years to repay, though it would be forgiven if they enter and remain in an eli- gible criminal justice profes- sion within an eligible North Carolina County for four years. The number of fellow- ships awarded annually shall not exceed 100 and the total number of students in the program each year shall not exceed 200. Appli- cations are processed in the order that they are received. Recipients are selected dur- ing each of the quarterly NC Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Com- mission meetings, so apply before the end of April. The application process opened on September 1, 2022, and closes on April 30, 2023. Applicants must meet the following requirements to be eligible for the North Carolina Criminal Justice Fellows Program: • Be a high school gradu- ate or a high school senior who will graduate by the end of the current academic year. • Have intent to pursue a 2-year degree in Criminal Justice or related field at any of the 58 NC Commu- nity Colleges and to be em- ployed in an eligible criminal justice profession in an eli- gible North Carolina county following completion of the program. • Not have been con- victed of any crimes listed in the Criminal Justice Fel- lowship Program Guide. The Criminal Justice Fellows Program is open to high school seniors and graduates seeking an as- sociate in applied science in Criminal Justice or other Committee approved re- lated field of study. Appli- cants may reside in any county in North Carolina but should intend to enter an eligible criminal justice pro- fession in an eligible North Carolina County. In addition to a completed application, applicants must also submit unofficial high school transcripts, SAT and/or ACT scores, two (2) references, a copy of their driver's license or govern- ment issued ID, and AOC records checks from all counties they in which they have resided or may have been charged.
