T-SHIRT SPONSOR PRESENTED BY nutrition The Distinguished Young Woman (DYW) of Rutherford County program was held Saturday, March 18 at the Foundation Performing Arts Auditorium. Madalyn Hughes was named the DYW of Rutherford County 2024. An R-S Central High School junior, Madalyn performed a poetic monologue of an excerpt from "The Hill We Climb" by Amanda Gorman for her on-stage talent, which earned her a scholarship talent award. She also won preliminary scholarship awards in the areas of fi tness and interview. Madalyn received a total of $4,300 in scholarships. A total of $10,300 in scholarships was given to the participants at the end of the evening. The fi rst runner-up was Ashleigh Womick, also R-S Central junior and second fi nalist was Addison Lane, a junior at Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy. The program celebrated and said farewell to DYW of Rutherford County 2023, Maria- Thereza Barros Gualberto. Other special entertainment that evening included last year's fi rst fi nalist, Bonnie Jackson, and second fi nalist, Julia Lane. Other high school juniors participating in the annual program were: Cora Goforth, East Rutherford High School; Alayah Moore, East Rutherford, Mary Grace Tisdale, East Rutherford; Mackenzie Hughes, R-S Central; Roselyn Enriquez, Chase High School; Zoe Hodge, R-S Central and Abril De La Cruz, Chase High School. The class of 2024 participants were judged in the areas of scholastics, interview, self-expression, talent, and fi tness. Award winners were: • Madalyn Hughes: fi tness, talent, interview, scholastics; • Ashleigh Womick: self-expression preliminary, scholastics overall, Spirit award; • Addison Lane: self-expression preliminary, scholastics preliminary, interview preliminary; • Zoe Hodge: fi tness preliminary, talent preliminary; • Cora Goforth, talent preliminary; Spirit Award; • Mary Grace Tisdale: fi tness preliminary, self expression; scholastics, Be Your Best Self; • Roselyn Enriquez, interview preliminary. • Mackenzie Hughes, scholastic preliminary Madalyn Hughes named DYW of Rutherford County Article Provided By: Jean Gordon.
