Beth Miller and her
team of supporters will
participate in Teal Diva
5K for Ovarian and other
Gynecologic Cancer on
Saturday, May 6 at 9am
in Charlotte. She and her
team encourage others
to join in the fundraiser to
raise awareness of ovarian
and other gynecological
cancers.
Miller, who has been
a part of the Teal Diva
5K for the past couple of
years has set a personal
fundraising goal of $5,000
for the event.
"We would love to see
Beth's Best Team grow in
numbers beyond last year's
64 to exceed last year's
$8,000+ raised," said Alan
Herrick of Rutherfordton,
brainchild of Flossy, the
bird yard ornament that
hops from yard to yard
raising money.
Herrick helps to
coordinate the event and
is responsible for moving
"Flossy" from yard to yard
to raise awareness and
hopefully encourage folks
to support Beth, Teal Diva
and the Charlotte event.
Teal Diva focuses on
the mental and emotional
health of those affected
by a gynecologic cancer.
Miller said the goal is to
meet the community where
they are by connecting with
newly diagnosed women,
survivors, and their support
network. Programs include,
but are not limited to
active treatment support,
celebrating survivorship,
and honoring legacies, all
while providing strength
through connection.
Proceeds from the 5k will
allow Teal Diva to continue
making a difference in
the lives of those within
the communities we
serve through quality of
life programming and
community advocacy.
Teal Diva is a not
for profi t, charitable
organization formed under
Section 501(c)3 of the U.S.
Internal Revenue Code.
Donations to Teal Diva are
tax-deductible as charitable
contributions for US federal
income tax purposes.

the largest team in the 5K
event.

Early detection is critical
for a better prognosis,
explains Miller, a cancer
survivor.
"I had never heard of
ovarian cancer, knew
nothing about it and it cost
me. I don't want the same
to happen to you. Know
the symptoms, know your
body, talk to your doctor."

Flossy hops from yard to yard raising money for
ovarian cancer awareness.
"Revival of Lake Lure Golf Course" is the topic of two community meetings planned March
23 at 6 p.m. at the Bills Creek Community Center and on March 25 at 10 a.m. at the Lake
Lure Golf Course.
Proponents of the revival of the golf course believe the course is a key piece of Lake Lure
history and can be revived to serve as a local amenity and an asset to the community.
The Lake Lure Golf Course opened in 1927, the same year the town was incorporated.
It played an integral part in the launch and growth of Lake Lure, offering a welcoming golf
experience in the Hickory Nut Gorge.
