ON THE RECORD Three arrested following trespassing complaint By Sherri Griffin editor sherri@pressdispatch.net On Friday, March 10, Police received a call stating that there were three subjects steal- ing firewood from their property and loading it into a side by side UT V. The caller stat- ed that she wished to pursue theft charges against the subjects. When Police arrived on scene, they ob- served two males, a female, and a side by side UT V with wood loaded in the utility bed approximately 10 feet in the woods to the south of the caller's residence. There was also a tan 1995 chevy Blazer parked on the roadway to the south of the caller's residence. Police observed a male, later identified as elvis Lee roach, Jr., 30, of Lamar, Indiana, sitting in the driver's seat of the side by side UT V that was parked approximately 10 feet from the roadway. The other male, identi- fied as Brian K. Williams, 57, of Velpen, was standing at the rear driver's side of the side by side UT V and the female, Bethlena a. Williams, 44, of Velpen, was standing near the front of the side by side UT V. Police activated their emergency lights and ordered the three to put their hands up and come toward the roadway. Mr. and Mrs. William complied, while roach made ner- vous hand movements and stuck his hands in his pockets while still seated in the driver's seat of the side by side UT V. roach asked if he could rive the UT V to the road and Police ordered him to exit the driver's seat and come to the roadway with his hands up. Police detained the three in double locked handcuffs. Mr. Williams told Police that he had per- mission to be there and that the caller had a misunderstanding about them being allowed to be there. roach stated that Mr. Williams rents a trailer to live in from the landowner and they all have permission to harvest fire- wood from that area. after speaking to the caller, the caller stat- ed the three were taking firewood she had cut and placed along the property line. Police advised the caller that they couldn't prove what wood belonged to them nor where the exact property line was, so the caller asked to have all three trespass warned from their property. When Police went to retrieve a registra- tion or VIn number from the side by side UT V, they located a glasses case laying on the ground near where all three subjects were located when Police arrived. Inside the case was approximately 6.1 grams of a white crystal and power like substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine, along with a class tube, commonly used for smoking meth. all three subjected stated that they didn't know anything about the discovered illegal items, despite it being located right where they were all standing upon the Police arrival. While searching roach, Police located a ziplock bag of a green plant like substance, which roach admitting being marijuana and a glass smoking pipe containing burnt mar- ijuana residue. all three subjects were placed under ar- rested and transported to Pike county Jail. elvis roach was charged with Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Methamphet- amine, and two counts of Possession of Par- aphernalia. Brian and Bethlena Williams were both charged with Possession of Methamphet- amine and Possession of Paraphernalia. Winslow man charged with Possession of Meth, Marijuana and Paraphernalia By Sherri Griffin editor sherri@pressdispatch.net On saturday, March 11, Indiana state Trooper angermeier pulled over hershel Gish, 64, of Winslow after he noticed Gish unable to maintain a steady speed and swerving with in the lane on state road 61, near the 40.3 mile marker. Police ran the plate on the vehicle that Gish was driving and was not able to get a return on the plate. Indiana state Police ad- vised that the plate returned expired on a red chevy, while Gish was driving a black truck. Police activated emergency lights and con- ducted a traffic stop in the PcI gas station parking lot. Upon making contact with Gish, Police seemed confused and stated that he did not know there was an issue with the plates on the truck. While talking to Gish, Police could smell the odor of raw and burnt mari- juana coming from inside the vehicle. Gish stepped out of the vehicle and admitted to Police that he smokes marijuana frequently and recently. additional police back up were called and upon a search of the vehicle, Police located a multi-colored smoking device containing burnt and raw plant material and a blue straw containing a crystal residue. Police field test- ed the straw and both times the swab tested positive for meth. Gish stated that he did not know why the straw was inside his truck and agreed to a series of standardized field sobriety tests. Gish exhibited indications of impairment and stated that he felt like he got a d- on the tests. Gish refused a chem- ical test and was taken to the Pike county Jail and charged with Possession of Meth, Possession of Marijuana, OWI refusal, and Possession of Paraphernalia. t were unable to locate him. a warrant for his arrest was issued and harper was arrested on Wednes- day, March 8. Evansville man arrested for Resisting Arrest and OWI Refusal By Sherri Griffin editor sherri@pressdispatch.net an evansville man was pulled over by Indiana state Police after a check of the vehicle registration showed the registered owner, Patrick deweese, 40, of evansville, had a suspended Infraction license status on a regular Id card. When Police exited their vehicle, deweese got out of his car and walked away from the officer, yelling he did not have time to talk to the Police. deweese then turned around and walked towards Police in an aggressive manner, asking what was going on. Police informed him that they had run his plates and he did not have a valid license. deweese yelled expletives at the Police and turned around and started to walk away while Police continued to order him to come talk to them. Finally deweese turned around and again began walking aggressive- ly towards Police telling them repeatedly to "Write the _ _ _ _ _ ticket." When Police ad- vised deweese he was fixing to go to jail, deweese said "Let's go," and then turned around and put his hands behind his back. Police placed deweese in handcuffs and attempted to de-escalate the incident by try- ing to talk and reason with deweese to no avail. Police could smell the odor of an alco- holic beverage coming from his person and field sobriety tests were performed, which deweese was uncooperative with. deweese also refused a chemical test. deweese spit on the windshield of the pa- trol car and began to pull away from Police while in handcuffs. deweese was placed in- side the patrol car and brought to Pike coun- ty Jail. Prior to entering the jail booking area, deweese told Police to "have a good one, fat boy." deweese was charged with re- sisting Law enforcement and OWI refusal. Joshua Harper charged with Intimidation, Domestic Battery and Strangulation By Sherri Griffin editor sherri@pressdispatch.net a Winslow man was arrested on Friday, March 3 for communica- tion-Intimidation, domestic Battery against a child Less than 14, domestic Bat- tery in the Presence of a child Less than 16, and strangulation according to a probable cause affidavit filed with the court. at approximately 10:18 a.m., on saturday, March 4, Police were called to a domestic disturbance in Winslow. a witness stated that Joshua harper, 44, of Winslow had kicked them out of his house and had pushed a minor child and took the witness and minor child's phone. The witness told Police that they had taken off running to call 911. The witness advised that while inside the home, harper had gone to take their phone and put them in a headlock. The witness stated that harper had also busted up their life and told them he was going to snap their neck. Police noticed the busted and swollen lip while talking to the witness and marks on the left side of their neck. The witness ad- vised that they could not breathe when they were put in the headlock and felt like they would pass out. harper had left the residence prior to the Police arriving in a White nissan altima according to witnesses. Police tried to con- tact harper by cellphone but were unable to reach him. Witnesses at the scene stated that children were present when the incident took place. Police went to look for harper but were unable to locate him. a warrant for his ar- rest was issued and harper was arrested on Wednesday, March 8. CREATIVITY. OUR SPECIALTY.
