"Our team is doubling down on our efforts to support the promotion of health and wellness practitioners through our Rooted Blog and monthly calendar," shares Melanie. "We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful place with an abundance of resources and we hope to use our voice to amplify the healing work or others. We're also launching our own micro farm where we will be offering some particularly nutrient dense foods through our weekly membership service. We are really proud of having retained so many clients through the years and we look forward to expanding our reach and supporting more families throughout the Peninsula." Foodsmith Santa Cruz Sentinel readers voted Foodsmith (https://myfoodsmith. com/) the runner-up for Best Meal Prep Delivery. The Soquel-based business has been around since 2013. Foodsmith's freshly made meals are packaged and ready to eat, or heat and eat. Owner and chef Jamie Smith is a member of the American Culinary Federation and a graduate of the USDA's Produce Safety University. His experience includes operating his own restaurant in Santa Cruz (Sestri) and serving as Chef de Cuisine of UC Santa Cruz and as the Food Service Director of the Santa Cruz City Schools. Each week, Jamie and his team prepare menus that feature organic produce from local Happy Boy Farms and Coke Farm. As they state on the website, they utilize "Stealth Health" recipe techniques which are designed to "add more vegetables and fiber" with "no unhealthy carbs or fats." There are two pickup locations in Santa Cruz County—the Soquel Foodsmith kitchen and CrossFit UP in Santa Cruz— and delivery requires an extra fee. They also serve customers in other Bay Area locations like Monterey. Customers can customize how many days of food they would like (two, three, five or six—for the 5- and 6-day options, you'll be getting food on two different days), and which meals to receive (breakfast, lunch, dinner, or any combination of the three). For example, a person can order "five days of breakfast only" or "three days of breakfast and dinner" or "two days of lunch." Here are some dishes that appeared on recent menus: for paleo breakfast, choices included Tico Style Gallo Pinto (Costa Rican breakfast with crockpot chicken and cauliflower rice with roasted peppers, onions, zucchini and Latin spices, with scrambled eggs and pico de gallo) and Winter Spiced Pancake Casserole (grain free protein rich baked spiced pancake casserole, with almond butter, cinnamon and ginger roasted apples, and chicken apple sausage).
