March 3rd will mark the end of the third quarter and our seniors will be in their final stretch of high school. February 13-17 was special for our seniors, as they enjoyed a full week of activities com- plete with Wednesday breakfast, spirit days, as staff showed their ap- preciation for the hard work and contributions they have given to Pike Central High school. additionally, our senior athletes were recog- nized at the Friday night boys' basketball game from basketball, Cheer, swing Choir, Guard and Pep band. Pike Central High school is making a mark for itself across the state for its top notch Career and Technical Programs. rated #1 in the state, our welding program showed why we continue to re- ceive those honors. On 02/04/2023 Pike Central High school CTe students compet- ed at the skills usa re- gional Competition at Vincennes university and the following earned awards: •anthony Merkley - 1st Place •Gavin sermersheim - 2nd Place •Gage schepers - 3rd Place •nathan burger - 4th Place •William Werner - 5th Place all of these stu- dents continue to the state competition on april 14-15. The Precision Machin- ing students also compet- ed in the same competi- tion, and the following students will advance to the state competition on april 14th-15th: •austin Henson - 3rd Place •Isaac shimer - 4th Place •eric King - 5th Place The talents that our students continue to ex- hibit are remarkable. Our swing Choir traveled to evansville aIs to com- pete at the district solo & ensemble Contest. The following students medaled: Gold rating - riley bolin, Max bur- khart, Gabby Collins, Taylor Oswalt, Kearstan Hartley, shelby Keeker, emily McGillem, Caden Fausnbaugh, and Conner Loveless These students ad- vanced to the state Con- test on saturday, Febru- ary 18 at Perry Meridian High school in Indianap- olis, Indiana. The following students medaled: silver rating - avery smith, ella Hart- ke, Jayla Harris, Makyn- na satterfield, easton bailey, brylee Walker, Zack Miller. We continue to en- courage and support all of our state bound Pro- grams that represent the Pike Central Commu- nity and Families at the highest levels. Good luck Chargers. as you can see we are a busy community, learn- ing, growing and compet- ing at the highest levels, continuing to stretch and grow ourselves to the best version of self that we can achieve. We appreciate both family and community support that enables our stu- dents to thrive and flour- ish at Pike Central High school. Otwell Miller Academy In the past week Mrs. Kim Elliot's fourth grade class has been working on a STEM project where the students were paired to construct a vol- cano. Today the students were able to witness the eruption of their final models. The students have been studying how the Earth's surface can change suddenly. One such change is a volcano eruption. They have also been learning about earthquakes, floods, landslides, and droughts. Above and to th left. Mrs. Ashlyn Hoffam's first grade STEM day activity for the day "What is snow made of? What state of matter is snow? What happens when you mix a solid with a liquid?" Then the first grade students made snow to prove our prediction! Winslow Elementary The fourth grade classes recent- ly visited the Buchta Technology Cen- ter. Lily Payne, Wyatt Knight, Kalijah Cummins, Rolon Bruce , Carter Moss and Tucker Thompson experiment with one of the center's projects. Kindergartner Oliver Brown does the crab walk in the Sensory Hallway Ms. Ficklin's kindergarten students line up and do wall push-ups in the Sensory Hall Meadow Wyland, Kayson Burton, Graysen Nall and Of- ficer Paul show off the picture frame the students built in Mrs. Shedd's room during their Math measuring and con- struction unit.
