He was born December 5, 1937 in Rutherford County, to the late Obe Henson and the late Dezzie Hines Henson. Alton was a US Army veteran serving his country proudly. He was a member of Goodes Creek Baptist Church. Alton was widowed by his wife Mary Willie Jolley Henson and having no children of their own they called their spe- cial niece Kim Wilson their daughter. Survivors include his brother Broughton Henson and wife Mary Lou, sister Helen "Bobbie" Harris and numerous special nieces and nephews. In addition to his par- ents and wife, Alton was preceded in death by broth- ers; Furman "Bo" Henson, Whitey Henson and Jack Henson, sisters; Jean Wilson and Frances Silver. In lieu of flowers make donations to Goodes Creek Baptist Church at PO Box 720 Cliffside, NC 28024. The family will conduct their own private memorial service at a later date with Rev. Dale Welch will offici- ating. William "Bill" Davis William "Bill" Davis, age 84 of Forest City died Thursday, January 26, 2023. Bill was a son of the late Frank L and Mary A Davis. Bill was born in Baton Rouge, but spent most of childhood in Auburn, AL as the son of an Auburn pro- fessor. He attended Auburn with an Industrial Relations degree. He relocated to Forest City in 1969. Bill served as a men- tor for the Robert and Janice McNair Educational Foundation for several years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mary Anne Gillis Davis in 2016. Survivors include his sons, Dr. Keith Davis of Pinehurst, York Davis of Richmond, VA and wife, Kim Hunt Davis, four grandchil- dren. James was born September 28, 1951 in Rutherford County to the late James "Bud" Walter Bradley and Inez B. Sims. He served honorably in the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Spindale Fellowship Holiness Church. In addition to his par- ents, he was preceded in death by his son, Billy Jack Bradley; grandson, Matthew Stone; brothers, Bobby Gene Bradley and Jimmy Dean Bradley and sisters, Betty Gene Avant and Delores Crotts. Those left to cherish fond memories include his wife, Teresa Bradley; daughter, Helenla Rowe of Spindale; son, Kenneth Bradley (Ashley) of Sevierville, TN; brothers, Thomas Dwayne Sims (Lisbeth) and Johnny Harrison Bradley; sisters, Patsy Irene Reid, Linda Faye Schablitsky, Judy Ann Bradley and Debbie Bradley, thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The funeral ser- vice will be conducted at 2pm February 18, 2023 at Spindale Fellowship Holiness Church with Rev. Chad Sisk and Rev. Buddy Campbell officiat- ing. Interment will follow at Eternal Hills Memorial Park. Military honors will be pro- vided by the Rutherford County Honor Guard. Stephen Orr Stephen Orr, age 38, of Rutherfordton, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2023. Stephen was born February 21, 1984 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He is the son of John and Terri Orr who reside in Charlotte. He had a compassionate heart which led him to be a full-time caregiver. In addition to his par- ents, he leaves behind, his children, Caiden, Sydni and Seton Orr; siblings, Allison Webb (Jake) of Concord, Janete Orr of Rutherfordton, Seth Orr (Lauren) of Columbia, SC and Jacob Orr of Charlotte; his grand- mother, Elaine "Noni" Cheshire of Charlotte; many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by the moms of his children, Heather Harbison and Latoya Logan. A memorial service was held February 11 at Adaville Baptist Church with Pastor John Orr and Mr. Seth Orr officiating. James Anthony Spencer, age 67 of Forest City died Saturday, February 11, 2023. Tony, as he was known, was born July 11, 1955, in Greenville County, SC and was a son of the late Charles Alton Spencer and Ophelia Bradley Spencer. Growing up in Taylors, he was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and a graduate of Greer High School. Tony earned degrees at North Greenville Junior College, Carson-Newman College and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Tony became the Minister of Music at the First Baptist Church in 1982 and remained there until retire- ment. His tenure spanned nearly 40 years. He was a mem- ber of American Choral Directors Association. He was co-founder of Cheerful Voices Choir and was Director of Rutherford Community Chorus. Tony served as a choral cli- nician at the N C Baptist Assembly over the course of 20 years. He was a par- ticipant in N C Handbell and Choral festivals, and mem- ber of Southern Appalachian Chamber Singers. He served as an adjunct profes- sor and mentor at Gardner- Webb University. In addition to his par- ents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Bradley Spencer. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Becky Stroud Spencer, son, Charles Spencer and girl- friend, Rachel Szymanski both of Charlotte, daughter Meredith Spencer Frees and husband Nick of Bradenton, FL, one grandson, one granddaughter, mother-in- law, Doris Stroud of Shelby, sister-in-law, Patricia Spencer of Greenville, SC and one niece. A service of Resurrection and Thanksgiving was held February 15 at First Baptist Church Forest City. Rev. Dr. Garin Hill, Rev. Clyde V. Buckner and Rev. Dr. Diane Nelson officiated. Teresa was born October 28, 1961 in Rutherford County to the late Jonas Yates Evans and Shirley Bradley Evans. She was a dedicated home- maker. She attended the Caroleen Congregational Holiness Church. In addition to her par- ents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Mike Evans and a sister, Barbara Owens. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Jose Garcia; son, Jeffrey Evans (Sarah) of Forest City; brother, Terry Evans (Deborah) of Cliffside and sister, Jean Hill (Jimmy) of Cliffside; two grandsons, and several nieces and nephews. "Goldbird" Arthur Earls "Goldbird" Arthur Earls, age 69, born September 4, 1953 to the late O.P. Earls and Sarah Estelle Godfrey Earls passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2023. He was predeceased in death by his wife, Jolynne Phillips Earls of 44 years; brothers, Buck, John, Opal, Wilbur and Joel (Speed) Earls; grandson, Westyn Smith. Goldbird is survived by his children, Christopher Joseph Earls, Jennifer Lynne Earls, and Joshua David Earls; three grand- children, brothers, George Earls, Tracy Earls, Joseph Earls; sisters, Norma Sue Keown, Marcy Drake, Judy Henderson, and Cynthia Bridges. He was born in Winder, GA to the late Oliver Daniel Owensby, Sr. and Robbie Lee Hales Owensby. He is also predeceased by his sis- ter, Amelia June Owensby. Oliver leaves behind numerous friends. He was born in Rutherford County to the late James and Martha Jane Campfield. He is also predeceased by his broth- er, Jimmy Campfield (Cindy Campfield). Dennis leaves behind to cherish his memories his spouse, Kathy Campfield; sons, Scott Campfield (Kelly) and Kyle Wright (Amy); daughters, Christy Bailey (Daniel) and Kristi Wright-Sorrells (Christy); thirteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; one nephew. A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Bulo and Alpha Panther Black. Charles was self-employed in the auto parts industry, was a mem- ber of 2nd Baptist Church. He also volunteered for the Spindale Fire Department for over 40 years and was a member of Western Star Lodge 91 for over 50 years. Left to cherish his mem- ories are his wife, Brenda Davis Black; daughter Tonya Coffey and husband Tracy; son, Tim Black and wife Susan; four grandchildren, sister, Kathleen Lewis. In addition to his par- ents, Charles was preceded in death by sisters, Janette Runyn and Orene Wallace. Born in Detroit, Michigan; he is the son of the late Hughey Osbourne Phillips and Frances Flack Phillips. John was a former employee of Ethan Allan Furniture and was a veteran of the US Air Force serving during the Vietnam War. Services will be held at a later date in Tennessee.
