Students from 3rd through 8th grades in public, charter, private and homeschools were invited to enter. The students in grades 3rd through 5th could choose to compete in such contest areas as designing a stamp, drawing a poster, producing original digital artwork, writing a poem, writing a short story, producing a banner, submitting a photo essay, or conducting and writing about a community service project that was completed by November 2022. Those students in 6th, 7th and 8th grade could compete in such contest areas as writing a poem, writing a short story, submitting a photo essay, producing original digital artwork, drawing a poster, producing a banner, or conducting and writing about a community service project. This year the contest received 577 entries by 645 students. The judges evaluated same type entries at the local school level. Those 1st-place winners were judged against their peers from other schools. Recently the Griffi th Rutherford Chapter sent, for statewide judging, 18 entries which were completed by 75 students. Again, this year the Griffi th Rutherford Chapter submitted excellent entries, which included entries in 7 of the 8 categories. Those entries winning 1st place at the statewide JAC judging level will continue on for judging at the Southeast Division Level. If they win fi rst place there, the entries will go to National JAC judging in Washington, D.C. All 1st-place winners at the Chapter Level of judging were sent on to the NCDAR State JAC judging.
