Tecumseh outscored the Chargers seven to two over the next 1:30 but the Chargers closed the period with four unanswered, leaving them up at the half 30 -11. Pike Central possessed the ball coming out of halftime. a jump ball called as Morton moved inside gave the ball to Tecumseh. The braves moved the ball around the perimeter and passed to duPont, who worked the ball along the baseline and was called for a charge against Pike Central senior braden Howald. Pike Central scored the first points of the quar- ter as braden Howald found Morton under the basket for two. Tecumseh outscored the Chargers 10 -5, over the next four minutes closing the defi- cit to 16, but would get no closer. Pike Central went on a run scoring the last nine points of the period to end the third up 46 -21. They extended their lead to 29 within the first two minutes of the fourth quarter with points from Gish and braden Howald. "We did a nice job pushing in transition, getting out and running, getting to the rim and not settling," Coach elliott said. The lead allowed Pike Central to let their starters rest and the bench get some playing time on the varsity level. sophomores drew dawson, albert Whitehead and brenton Fry- rear all pulled down a rebound and Whitehead additionally contributed in the scoring column with a bucket down the stretch. The Chargers move their record to 11-7 with a 61-29 victory over the braves. "We played well on both sides of the basket- ball tonight," said Coach elliott, adding, "I am proud of our effort." Tecumseh won the tip but Pike Central was the first to score with just more than a min- ute played. Charger junior Zane Gehlhausen fed sophomore drew dawson under the bas- ket who connected for two. a fter a turnover by the braves on the next possession, soph- omore albert Whitehead hit from the top of the key to give the Chargers a 5 -0 lead. daw- son added two from the line to push the lead to seven, before giving up a basket to the braves to make the score seven to two. Charger Lane Frederick hit for two treys in the period while the Charger defense only gave up four points to lead 13-6 at the end of the first period. Pike Central opened the period with the ball and after a miss by Frederick and a brave turnover, dawson was fouled on the shot and hit two from the line with less than a minute played. This would be the only scoring of the period for the Chargers, as lapses in defense and poor offensive execution had the braves scoring 14 for the period to give Tecumseh a 20 -15 lead at halftime. The braves extended their lead to 11 open- ing the third period before Charger Jakob newkirk converted two from the charity stripe. The braves hit another basket to push the lead back to 11. Pike Central got baskets from Whitehead and Fryrear to cut the lead to seven with just under three minutes to play in the quarter. That would be as close as the Chargers would get as they gave up another basket and ended the period down 21-30. The Chargers got shots, but could not get anything to fall in the fourth quarter. They gathered their only points of the period on a basket by Whitehead, with just over two min- utes left to play in the game, while the braves scored eight to secure a 38 -23 win.
