Poplar St., Petersburg 812-354-8500 Pike County's News Network Since 1898 The visitors came out of the locker room for the sec- ond quarter trailing 23-8 as Princeton utilized six scor- ers and two more in their 17-point surge in the third. Anna Whitehead, Liberty Taylor, Shelby Meadows and Keena Young all got on the board in the third but Princ- eton could score with many hands from every spot on the floor. Tiger three baggers rained down in the fourth via Addi- son Schafer, Raven Jones and Mallory Watt, negated by a pair courtesy of Lady Charger Delaney Welch. The 16 -point fourth featuring sev- en Lady Charger scorers fell short to the 20 points netted by Schafer, Watt, Jones and company. Taylor was the top Lady Charger scorer with seven points followed by Welch and Meadows at six each. Brailey Mills was five of seven from the line for five markers and Anna Whitehead scored two bas- kets in the second half. Kah- le Young, Keena Young and Tiffany Artega accounted for one of two shooting from the line. The girls traveled to Te- cumseh on Tuesday, January 24 for another 8 pm Pocket Athletic Conference faceoff. Tecumseh had a 5 -12 record with two wins in the PAC. The Lady Chargers have a 4-17 overall season record with a 1-10 PAC record. Lady Charger head coach Trey Wornica said, "Tecum- seh is a big physical team. We have to do the little things right." The IHSA A 31 sectional kicks off at 8 p.m. at Prince- ton on January 31. They face Princeton again in their opening section- al game. The earlier contest is Her- itage Hills and Southridge. Vincennes and Washington face off on February 3 and the finals are 7 p.m. on the 4th. Princeton's big quarter has been the third while the Pike Central Lady Chargers score their most points in the final stanza. Both teams have beat- en Bosse and Mt. Vernon. Princeton posted losses to South Spencer, Southridge, Gibson Southern, Forest Park, South Knox, Vincennes and Heritage Hills. Princeton wins include Tell City, Boon- ville, Washington, Reitz, Wood Memorial and North Posey. Wins for Pike Central have been Mount Vernon (44-15), Evansville Bosse (42-20), Loogootee (36 -31) and White River Valley (43-41). That fourth quarter surge is what got the White River Valley game in the win column for the Lady Chargers. JUNIOR VARSITY The Charger junior varsity suffered a 28 -6 first half at the hands of the Princeton Tigers but then tamed the Tigers by outscoring them 26 -12 in the second half. They succumbed to the Ti- gers, 40 -32. Tiffany Artega was a big part of that half with four three pointers and 15 total points that led all scorers. Kennedy Willis contributed seven points, Patience Hay - craft five and Madelyn Fis- cus three. Taryn Fiscus and Gracie Hill each added a free throw in the 26 -12 second half push.
