Entertainment Now | January 7 - 13, 2023 Sunday morning | 7 By Michelle Rose TV Media From film to TV: Is film legend Robert De Niro ("The Irishman," 2019) coming soon to TV? Accord- ing to Variety, signs point to yes. The trades paper first broke the news that the two-time Oscar win- ner is attached to star in "Zero Day," a Netflix limited series from "Narcos" showrunner Eric New- man and NBC News president Noah Oppenheim. Newman, who is also an execu- tive producer of "The Watcher" and "True Story," has an overall deal at Netflix, and he'll reportedly work with Oppenheim to pen the script based on the story they wrote with Michael Schmidt. Op- penheim, who has helmed NBC News since 2017, previously wrote screenplays for "The Maze Run- ner" (2014), "Jackie" (2016) and "The Divergent Series: Allegiant" (2016). On "Zero Day," he will also be credited as an executive pro- ducer, as will De Niro and Jonathan Glickman of Panoramic Media. Netflix declined to comment on De Niro's involvement, although it seldom comments on projects that are in development. And details are rather scarce at this time: we know the limited series will be a political thriller and De Niro would play the part of a former U.S. presi- dent. If "Zero Day" gets the formal go-ahead, the project would pro- vide De Niro with his first TV role as the lead and series regular. The "series regular" part is key, be- cause it's not De Niro's first foray into television. While his acting re- sume largely consists of film roles, he scored an Emmy nomination in 2017 for his role in the HBO movie "The Wizard of Lies," in which he played Bernie Madoff, and another in 2019 as a producer of "When They See Us." He's also no stranger to the po- litical thriller genre, or to a fictional White House. Fans will recall De Niro playing a close adviser to the scandal-plagued president in "Wag the Dog" (1997). In "Zero Day," De Niro will get to play the role of commander-in-chief, albeit one who is no longer in office. Keeping it in the family: "Lopez vs. Lopez" has had its in- augural run on NBC extended. The network recently ordered nine additional episodes of the freshman sitcom starring George Lopez ("The George Lopez Show") and his real-life daugh- ter, Mayan ("Mr. Troop Mom," 2009). That brings the total num- ber of Season 1 episodes to 22, which tends to be the standard for series airing on broadcast networks. 01/08 7 AM 7:30 8 AM 8:30 9 AM 9:30 10 AM 10:30 11 AM 11:30 12 PM 12:30 S1 S2 WTTV 4 ITOWN Church IN Focus Inside Indiana Colts 360 CBS News Sunday Morning (N) Face the Nation (N) Colts (N) The NFL Today (N) 4 4 WRTV 6 In Touch With Dr. Charles Stanley (N) Good Morning America (N) This Week (N) Joel Osteen In Touch With Dr. Charles Stanley (N) Homes Nashville Insider Paid Programming 6 6 @ WPTA Good Morning America (N) ABC21 News Sunday Morning (N) This Week (N) Ric Runestad Home Connection Inside Indiana Game Time Vets Saving Pets Hearts of Heroes WISH 7 News 8 Daybreak at 7AM (N) News 8 Daybreak at 8AM (N) News 8 Day (N) Politics (N) Business Equity & Opportunities (N) Countdown to Kickoff All Indiana Bets: Pro 8 8 H WLFI 8 News18 This Morning Weekend (N) CBS News Sunday Morning (N) Face the Nation (N) Game Time The NFL Today (N) D WTHR 12 13Sunrise Weekend at 7am (N) Sunday Today With Willie Geist (N) 13Sunrise Weekend at 9am (N) Meet the Press (N) The Retirement Charles Stanley To Be Announced 13 13 O WFYI 20 Biz Kid$ Cyberchase WordGirl Arthur Sustainability Joy/Painting Quilting Arts Second Life in Bloom Farmer-Foodie Indiana Week Contrary (N) 20 20 C WNDY 10 Hearts of Heroes oh baby!
