Later Jack Huss whose father was the principal of Spindale Elementary School and whose mother was a teacher there, became involved and the group quickly grew and became known as The Spindale Boys, made up mostly of men who had attended the old Spindale School. Some of the girls who attended the old Spindale School wanted to become involved in the luncheons held three times a year and the group became known as the "Spindale Folks." At this year's December event, Walter Dalton, a Spindale Boy and former North Carolina Lieutenant Governor, said the he did not know another place in the state where a group of people came together to renew friendships and celebrate community like the Spindale Folks. Of the 100 Spindale people and guests this December were several who traveled some distances to attend and some attending for the fi rst time. Unfortunately health issues prevented organizer Ray Dixon from attending this year's Christmas luncheon.
