The Greeneville Sun, Greeneville, TN December 24 - 30, 2022 — 25 4 x 4" ad lifecare center Sudoku (filled by client) Celebrity Scoop Celebrity Scoop By George Dickie From his childhood as a Boy Scout to his work with Big Brothers Big Sis- ters to his role as a reporter for CBS News, Steve Hartman has always had a soft spot for acts of kindness. So he's bringing the spotlight to those who perpetrate them in an upcoming CBS special. In "The Gift: Kindness Goes Vi- ral," premiering Wednesday, Dec. 28, Hartman examines how one simple act of kindness can create a ripple effect that can cause real, positive change. He also meets with an MIT professor as she works out a formula that posits how kindness can spread through simple, everyday acts. "What's always fascinated me most," explains Hartman, who also does a segment called "Kindness 101" for CBS News, "was these stories Checking in with Steve Hartman about little, simple acts of kindness that don't stop there. There'll be somebody who will do something and for whatever reason — the right circumstances or luck or coincidence, whatever it is — the kindness keeps spreading. Somebody will do some - thing kind for somebody else. And it doesn't peter out; it just keeps going." Among the people he highlights here are a Minneapolis woman who gives haircuts to the homeless; a Dal- las school bus driver who doubled as a mentor for his charges; and an Ohio crime reporter who teamed with a girl who was going blind to create a "visual bucket list" of places and things to see for others losing their eyesight. In each case, those acts of kindness have spawned others and it's the type of thing Hartman has been champi - oning all his life. "When people ask me what I do for a living, sometimes my short answer is I try to restore faith in humanity because that's kind of the direction my career has taken me ...," he says. "I think it's my parents and probably the Boy Scouts, too. I mean, this was instilled in me from all sides from a very young age." Welcome to Christmas Day, a time for family, food, peace on Earth – and noon-to- late-night basketball action. Yes, on Sunday, Dec. 25, the NBA, ABC and ESPN once again gift hoops fans with the annual Yuletide quintupleheader featuring talented, high-profile teams with postsea- son aspirations. It starts at midday (ET) with a clash of longtime Eastern Conference rivals as Julius Randle and the New York Knicks welcome in Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers into Gotham's Madison Square Garden. In a tightly-packed Atlantic Division, both the Knicks and Sixers will be looking to break out of the pack and challenge the first place Boston Celtics. The New Yorkers drew first blood in their season series with the Sixers last month in Philly, when Jalen Brunson led a closing minutes rally in the Knicks' 106-104 victory. Next in mid-afternoon, the scene switches to American Airlines Center, where Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks defend home court from Anthony Davis and the Los Angeles Lakers in a clash of Western Conference foes. While both teams are talented, neither has distinguished themselves in the season's first two months as the Mavs have languished in the middle of the Southwest standings with a .500 record and the Lakers have taken up residence in the Pacific's basement. Then in perhaps the day's marquee contest in early evening, the teams with the best records in the East go at it at TD Garden as Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwau- kee Bucks drop in on Jayson Tatum and the aforementioned Celtics. The last time these teams met was this past May, when the Celts vanquished the Bucks in seven games in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. That will require them to make some connections with other humans, though, which isn't easy for either of them. Kristin Dodson co-stars. "The Wall: Red Nose Day" (NBC — notable epi- sode, May 27) This year's edition of Comic Relief USA's annual fundraiser campaign to end child poverty is anchored by a special edition of this hit game show hosted by Chris Hardwick, himself a longtime supporter of the campaign. The hour will feature Jon and Stephanie, a community-focused couple from Houston who play the game hoping to earn some life-changing cash for themselves. While Hardwick cheers them on, he also tests his own skills at the game to raise money for Red Nose Day. 2 x 2" ad buttercup boutique 2 x 2.5" ad Amedisya classifi edsads@greenevillesun.com *Larger sizes available We'll Help Y Celebrate! To solve a sudoku, the numbers 1 through 9 must fi ll each row, column and box. Each number can appear only once in each row, column and box. You can fi gure out the order in which the numbers will appear by using the numeric clues already provided in the boxes. The more numbers you name, the easier it gets to solve the puzzle!
