South Gibson Star-Times B-6 Tuesday, December 20, 2022 CHURCH God is alive Klaus Schwab, founder of the World Economic Forum, recent- ly Tweeted ,"God Is Dead'" and the WEF is "Acquiring Divine Powers." At first glance, his pronouncement is laughable. Men have been declar- ing God is dead for centuries. Marx, Freud, Nietzsche, Steven Hawking and a host of other luminaries have boasted of God's demise. They are dead and people still believe in God. To use a phrase attributed to Mark Twain, "The report of my death was an exaggeration." Saying there is no God is benign. Declaring God dead acknowledges God was once alive! Most people believe in something. Seventy percent of the world's popu- lation are adherents to either Chris- tianity, Islam, Judaism, or Hindu- ism. These folks haven't got the mes- sage that God is dead or irrelevant. Those who promote the idea that God is dead have fallen into the sa- tanic trap sprang on Eve in the gar- den. Man is God! There is some truth to this state- ment. Jesus quoted Ps 82:6 "I said, You [are] gods, And all of you [are] children of the Most High." Human beings are created in the image of God. Jesus outlines the dif- ference between God and man: "Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?" Or "I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell." That is power! Jesus says the first and great com- mandment is, "The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength." His statement is the core of the first two commandments given by Mo- ses. Moses said there will be no oth- er gods for you. You will not make any idols and you will not bow down or serve any idol. Rounding out the Ten is the last commandment which says, you will not covet. Paul says the love of money is the BUCKSKIN ST. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begot- ten of the Father,) full of grace and truth." ( John 1:1, 14) Without exception, the great foun- dational doctrine of the divinity of Christ will always come under at- tack by cults and false religions, for to discredit the person and nature of Jesus Christ is the first step in deny- ing His claim to be the only mediator between man and God and a means of turning the Gospel message from truth into error. "For there is one God and one me- diator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men—the testi- mony given in its proper time." (1 Timothy 2:5 -6) If Jesus was not God in the flesh as He claimed to be, then He was just another man who was and is unable to do the things He claimed. If Je- sus was not the fulfillment of Isaiah's prophecy then there is no 'God with us' and Christ becomes the world's greatest deceiver. But even the Gospel writers be- lieved Jesus to be the person of Isa- iah's prophecy written 700 years be- fore His birth. "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Be- hold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel." (Isaiah 7:14) The Gospel writer Matthew, a Jew himself, an eyewitness to the works of Jesus and an historical commen- tator on the birth of Christ wrote, "Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us."
