PRINCIPAL POINTS CHARGER MOMENTS From the desk of Principal Dan Gaffney, Pike Central High School As winter quickly ap- proaches and the Friday night lights of the grid- iron are out, we celebrate a historic season for the Pike Central High School Football team. Although we fell short to a formida- ble opponent in Owen Val- ley in the sectional cham- pionship, we've created a legacy that will continue on for years to come. Coaches Brashear, Howald, Meade and Wil- son must be commend- ed as they have created a remarkable foundation for Pike Central Football to build upon for future Chargers. Many of our players are now trading their cleats for wrestling shoes as the start of the 2022/2023 wrestling season begins. Newly hired coach John Thompson, with the help of Chris Satterfield, bring to the mat a wealth of knowledge and have shifted gears from condi- tioning into the technical skills of wrestling, all the while enjoying the luxu- ries of a newly renovated wrestling room. Our student athletes have officially transitioned into the winter sports are- na. We look forward to a stacked Charger boys' basketball team and a sea- soned swim team. Coach- es Elliott and Igel are ea- ger to put their Chargers on the court opening up against Vincennes on No- vember 23, and encourage you to come out and show your support. Our Lady Chargers are led by Pike Central alum- nus Coach Trey Wornica, who is excited for the im- provements he is seeing weekly and looks forward to putting some check marks in the "W" column. Recognizing the achievements of our stu- dents is paramount to our faculty and illustrates the support and guidance of our teachers. Recently the Pike Central High School FFA Team (Pil- lar Rudolph, Dallas Reu- tepohler, Doyal Attaway, and Kelsey Query) qual- ified for the state tourna- ment in Forestry Compe- tition with forty compet- ing teams, and brought home sixth place. Addi- tionally, the PCHS Pre- cision Team competed in the Industry Challenge at Vincennes University Jas- per and finished second overall, a great achieve- ment in a very competi- tive environment. Pike Central High School hosted the 48th Annual Induction Cer- emony for the National Honor Society on Mon- day November 14. Twen- ty-one inductees joined this prestigious group whose four pillars are based upon Scholarship, Service, Leadership and Character. We are excit- ed and honored to have students of this caliber elevate the rest of us to a higher level. Pike Central High School students and staff honored our local vet- erans and civil servants on Veterans Day. Veter- ans were treated to an as- sembly and recognized for the sacrifices they incurred while defend- ing our freedoms and en- suring the safety of our families. Veterans shook hands and traded stories with their peers, students and faculty members. In a season of giving thanks, it was an honor for us to give thanks to those often forgotten.
