Known for her roles in Hulu's "Only Murders in the Build- ing," Woody Allen's "A Rainy Day in New York" (2019), her HBO Max cooking series "Sele- na + Chef" and her start in Dis- ney's "The Wizards of Waverly Place," Gomez has risen to popularity as a familiar on- screen face while also building a hyper-successful career as a singer/songwriter. With songs such as "Lose You to Love Me" and her more recent feature/co-writing cred- its on Julia Michaels' "Anxiety," Gomez isn't exactly shy any- more when it comes to speak- ing out about mental health (though she does admit she used to be scared of being emotionally vulnerable). In fact, she launched a campaign earlier this year called Your Words Matter, a collaboration between her Rare Beauty makeup brand and Mental Health First Aid to "educate on the power of your words when talking about mental health." Now, in the same vein, Go- mez tears down the walls for her viewers as she shares her own personal struggles with depression and anxiety in "My Mind & Me." Following a breakdown in 2018 that, according to People, "led her to seek dialectical be- havior therapy, a form of talk therapy, to manage her depres- sion and anxiety," Gomez has decided to use her platform to address mental health emer- gencies and the stigma sur- rounding them. This documen- tary is just one side of this new venture; she is also working on a school curriculum to help kids feel safe addressing and discussing their emotions, however dark.
