Maria knew from the time she
was 5 years old that she wan-
ted to be a doctor. Her dad,
who is a minimally invasive
gynecologist surgeon, was
always her inspiration and her
example in the path of accom-
plishing this dream. While she
was preparing to be a physi-
cian, she confirmed that hel-
ping women and saving lives
was her passion.
After she finished medical
school, she had the incredible
opportunity to start working
at Dr. John A. Martignetti's
translational laboratory in
the Department of Genetics
and Genomic Sciences at the
Icahn School of Medicine
at Mount Sinai in New York
City. Their work focuses on
genomics-based studies of
gynecological malignancies.
She is directly involved in
the design and development
of clinical studies that focus
on improving women's lives
through the development,
validation and implementa
-
tion of novel diagnostic and
screening tests for gynecolo-
gic cancers and gynecologic
diseases.
