Dr. Kerly Guerrero
WORDS OF WISDOM:
"A
lways remember to dream big,
knowledge is power, and success
is not without sacrifice. When you start
reaching your goals empower those
around you. True leadership is not about
what you have been able to accomplish,
it is more about how you help those
around you accomplish their dreams."

Dr. Kerly Guerrero was born in
Ecuador and immigrated to the
United States at the age of 4.
She grew up in Newark, N.J. At
a young age, Kerly learned the
meaning of hard work and dig-
nity as she witnessed how her
parents struggled to make ends
meet working as a construction
worker and housekeeper.
In 2013, Kerly received her Ba-
chelor of Science in biology with
magna cum laude. She went on to
receive her medical degree from
Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson
Medical School. In 2021, she
completed her residency in obs-
tetrics and gynecology at Rutgers
New Jersey Medical School. Kerly
now resides in N.Y. and is a board
eligible OB/GYN completing the
first year of her Maternal-Fetal
Medicine (MFM) Fellowship.
While in medical school, Dr.
Guerrero helped develop the Phy-
sical Activity System of Support
(PASOS) program, a community-
based intervention designed to
increase physical activity among
Latinos living with diabetes.
During her OB/GYN residency,
Dr. Guerrero volunteered during
the annual See, Test & Treat Pro
-
gram, a free cancer screening and
health education program in her
hometown. Additionally, she con-
tinued participating in communi-
ty-based research geared towards
decreasing maternal morbidity
and mortality in minority patients.
For this work, she was awarded the
NJMS OB/GYN Resident Day Re-
search Award. She was elected as
administrative chief resident and
won the NJMS OB/GYN Residency
Roth-Pearl Espirit De Corp award
during her last year in residency.
Growing up in an inner city, Dr.
Guerrero witnessed how systemic
inequality and limited resources
affected her community. This led
her to pursue her subspecialty
training at Montefiore Medical
Center/Albert Einstein College of
Medicine in the Bronx.
Dr. Guerrero was accepted for
the 2022-2024 Empire Clinical
Research Investigator Program
(ECRIP) fellowship, a research
grant sponsored by the New York
State Department of Health, which
works to advance biomedical re
-
search in New York.
