Brainerd Dispatch • October 2 - 8, 2022 •19 "My Best Friend's Exorcism" (2022) Amazon is bringing back '80s nostalgia with a comedy- horror twist in the new film "My Best Friend's Exor- cism," premiering Friday, Sept. 30, on Prime. Set in 1988, the film follows high school sophomores Abby (Elsie Fisher, "Eighth Grade," 2018) and Gretchen (Amiah Miller, "The Water Man," 2020), two friends who have been inseparable since the fourth grade. But, after an evening out skinny-dipping goes disastrously wrong, Gretchen starts to act like a different person, with bizarre incidents starting to follow her everywhere she goes. While Abby does her best to investigate what could possibly have happened to her best friend, the duo must ultimately determine if their friendship is strong enough to beat the devil. Based on the novel of the same name by Grady Hendrix, "My Best Friend's Exorcism" is directed by Damon Thomas ("Killing Eve") with a screenplay by Jenna Lamia ("Awkward."). The film also stars Cathy Ang ("And Just Like That..."), Rachel Ogechi Kanu ("Cheer for Your Life," 2021), Christopher Lowell ("How I Met Your Father"), Clayton Royal Johnson ("Stranger Things"), Michael Wayne Foster ("Bad Timing"), Ashley LeConte Campbell ("Get Out," 2017) and Nathan Anderson ("A Fall From Grace," 2020). "Jungle" Dive into a crime drama like no other with the new, six-episode series "Jungle," premiering Friday, Sept. 30, on Prime. Set in London in the near future, "Jungle" fol- lows the interconnected lives of several strangers, each of whom is facing their own struggle. Told through the lens of the U.K.'s rap and drill music scene, the series gives a new look into the often unseen and frequently misunderstood world, where only the strongest can survive. As each stranger's world begins to unravel around them, they all begin to realize that every action or inaction, no matter how small, has consequences. Harnessing a unique blend of music and dialogue with creatively ambitious cinematography, the series tells another side of an often-told story about life in inner-city London. Created and written by industry newcomers Junior Okoli and Chas Appeti of Nothing Lost productions, "Jungle" is directed by Okoli with cinematography by Appeti. Ezra Elliott ("The Batman," 2022), Nadia A'Rubea ("Strange Mercy," 2018), Matt Young ("Greyhawk," 2014), Madeline Appiah ("In the Long Run"), Daniel Scott-Smith ("House of the Dragon") and Cal-I Jonel ("The Midwich Cuckoos") star in the series, alongside rappers and musicians RA ("Wait For You"), Tinie Tempah ("Written in the Stars"), M24 ("Knock Knock" with Tion Wayne), J Fado ("Hold This"), IAMDDB ("Shade"), Rimzee ("Expensive Pain"), Jaykae ("Toothache"), Double Lz ("Plugged In"), Bandokay ("Can't Be Us") and Poundz ("Fake Love"). "Blonde" (2022) Dive into the life of one of Hollywood's greatest icons when the new biographical, psychological drama film "Blonde" premieres Wednesday, Sept. 28, on Netflix. Based on the biographical fiction novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates, "Blonde" is a bold reimag- ining of the life of legendary Hollywood star Marilyn Monroe (portrayed in the film by Anna de Armas, "Knives Out," 2019), looking at the divide between her private life and her public persona. From her volatile childhood all the way through her rise to stardom, the film blurs the lines between fact and fiction to bring the unforgettable woman to life. Written for the screen and directed by Andrew Dominik ("Chopper," 2000), the film also stars Bobby Cannavale ("Nine Perfect Strang - ers"), Adrien Brody ("The Grand Budapest Hotel," 2014), Julianne Nicholson ("August: Osage County," 2013), Xavier Samuel ("Elvis," 2022), Evan Williams ("Versailles"), Lucy DeVito ("Deadbeat"), Garrett Dillahunt ("Fear the Walking Dead"), Sara Paxton ("The Innkeepers," 2011) and Scoot McNairy ("Argo," 2012). "Blonde" comes from producers Dede Gardner ("Moonlight," 2016), Jeremy Kleiner ("If Beale Street Could Talk," 2018), Tracey Landon ("Sextuplets," 2019), Brad Pitt ("Moneyball," 2011) and Scott Robert - son ("American Crime Story"). "Entergalactic" Grammy-winning hip-hop artist Scott "Kid Cudi" Mescudi ("Don't Look Up," 2021) teams up with powerhouse writer/producer Kenya Barris ("Black- ish") to bring audiences the new television streaming special "Entergalactic," premiering Friday, Sept. 30, on Netflix. This computer-animated story follows a charming, stylish young artist named Jabari (voiced by Mescudi) as he attempts to balance love and success in his budding career in New York City. One aspiration may just lead to another when Jabari meets his new neighbor, a photographer and "it girl" named Meadow (Jessica Williams, "Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore," 2022), resulting in an explosion of art, music and fashion as Jabari works to make his dreams a reality. Written by Mescudi, "Entergalactic" features an all-star cast including Timothée Chalamet ("Dune," 2021), musical artist Ty Dolla $ign ("Insecure"), Laura Harrier ("Spider-Man: Homecoming," 2017), Vanessa Hudgens ("tick... tick...
