You bought or cooked a meal that really hit the spot. Many peo- ple are walking around with a void in their heart and an emptiness in their soul trying to fill it with stuff, but nothing seems to satisfy them. We hear all the time about celeb- rites who seem to have everything at their fingertips like money and fame, but are strung out on drugs, married multiple times or commit- ted suicide. Isaiah 55:2 (AMPC) states, "Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your earnings for what does not satisfy? Hearken diligently to Me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness [the profuseness of spiritual joy]." You're the One for Me There is a Samaritan woman in the bible who knew what it meant to be empty, until she encountered Jesus. I wrote a poem that sum- marized the story found in John 4:1-42: You Are the One For Me There was a Samaritan woman who came to a well. She needed a word from God's holy mail. She came to get a drink. When she met Jesus, she didn't know what to think. He read her life like an open book. She was surprised; He had her hooked. He had her attention, now she could be healed. She needed deliverance. She needed to be filled. Jesus said, "I give water that con- stantly flows." "A well of living water that contin- ues to grow." "All must worship the Father in spirit and truth." "They must surrender to him and not be aloof." The woman said, "I know the Mes- siah must come." "He is Christ, the anointed one." Jesus said to her, "I am He!" She left her water pot and cried, "You are the one for me!" Like the Samaritan woman, Jesus is waiting to encounter us with his love, joy and peace. He is waiting to take us by the hand, lead us away from the wrong path, and fill us with Himself. He will not force us to listen or obey him, but he urges us to make an exchange - give him the junk and receive refreshment from his Spirit! Emo- tional eating won't help us; nor can we put the burden on others to fill our void. Only one can do it. Psalm 107:9 (ESV) states, "For he satis- fies the longing soul, and the hun- gry soul he fills with good things." and in Matthew 11:29 (NLT) states, "Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls." PRAY THIS PRAYER: "Father, you are gracious, merciful and kind. Thank you for loving me, even when I have not been lovable. Your love for me is AMAZING!I Nothing compares to the peace that I have in you. Forgive me when I have put stuff in your place to com- fort me. I exchange my sins, pain, and needs and receive your direc- tion, goodness and love in Jesus' name I pray - Amen."
