Dixon Blvd. Shelby, NC 704-487-5811 Old Rugged Cross Baptist Church, 2506 Shoal Creek Church Rd., Shelby, NC When people get hungry, espe- cially extremely hungry, there is a desperation that is not satisfied until they eat. In fact, some experience nausea or sick- ness if they miss breakfast, lunch or dinner. Also, when a person is thirsty noth- ing seems to satisfy them like a drink of water. In the same way, natural things can be a pattern of spiritual or heavenly things according to Hebrews 8:5. I believe just as physical bodies get hungry and need to be filled, our spirits also need to be fed. There is a void in us that only God can fill, because he put it there. Ecclesiastes 3:11b (NLT) states, …. "He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God's work from beginning to end." In other words, all humans can sense that there is some- thing greater than what meets the eye. There is a supernatu- ral realm that we long for, a realm of total peace, love, and power that is not limited by our surroundings. Come Eat and Drink Jesus proclaims throughout scripture that he is the one that can feed the hungry and thirsty soul. John 6:33-35 (NKJV) states, "For the bread of God is that which comes down out Hunger and Thirst DANYALE PATTERSON of heaven, and gives life to the world." Then they said to Him, "Lord, always give us this bread." Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst." Jesus can provide what no one else can. Once a person receives him into their hearts and then starts growing in a personal relationship with him, they will experience a love and purpose that only he can give. A Hungry Man David understood this hun- ger and thirst. He desired God so much that prompted God "to call him a man after his heart," not because he was a perfect man, but because he was a hun- gry man. David states in Psalm 63:1-5 (NLT), "O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in your sanctu- ary and gazed upon your power and glory. Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise you! I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer. You satisfy me more than the rich- est feast. I will praise you with songs of joy." PRAY THIS PRAYER: "Lord, I praise you because you execute justice for the op- pressed; you give food to the hungry. And you set those who are in bondage free. I thank you for putting spiritual hunger in my heart. In fact, you said that it is a blessing to hunger and thirst after righteousness for we will be filled. I ask you Lord to feed my spirit and soul with yourself. Help me to seek you in everything that I say and do. In Jesus' name I pray - Amen." Danyale Patterson would love to hear from you!
