The 2022 Throwing Bones 2022 Not-A-Sprint weekend was held recently in memory of Kirk Wilkerson. The event included 3, 6 and 12 hour endurance runs on a course on the Thermal Belt Rail Trail from POPS to Spindale and return. Article Provided By: Pat Nanney Throwing Bones is a non-profi t organization that encourages blood cancer patients to stay healthy and active throughout treatment. The weekend included a golf tournament, silent auction and the Movement Fest held at POPS in Forest City. The Rutherford County Schools hosted its Welcome Back event last Monday August 8 at R-S Middle School in Rutherfordton. Teachers, administrators and other school personnel participated in the day-long event. In addition to the opening assembly ceremony, teachers also attended workshops and meetings throughout the day. The Wells Springs United Methodist Church in Forest City conducted a Community Family and Friends Backpack Giveaway and Fun Day on Saturday. Free food and beverages were offered to everyone and Back to School supplies were given to students in K-8 grades. A bounce house, games, prizes and a display of a fi re truck were all a part of the event. Hot dogs, hamburgers and fi sh were served. The Pastor is Rev. Lisa Moore. A u t h o r Carolyn Curry will be the guest at the S e p t e m b e r 1 meeting of Books and Bites at the Lake Lure Inn. The event is sponsored by Mountains Branch Library. Curry will talk about her book "Sudden Death". Joining Carolyn will be her husband Bill who played professional football with the Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Rams and most recently head coach at Georgia State University. Signup sheets available at Mountains Branch Library. Cost: $25 for 3-course lunch at Lake Lure Inn and a donation to Mountains Branch Library.
