Please have your funeral home send us your loved ones' obituaries to events@rutherfordweekly.com Obituaries Obituaries Obituaries Obituaries ©Community First Media Community First Media I was listening to a Christian Radio station last week and the announcer was talking about being an encouragement to others. She used the phrase, "Giving the Gift of Words." I know that we should try to be uplifting in our speech and use our words to help others, but I have never thought of our words as being a gift. The Bible says that a word fi tly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver (Proverbs 25:11) and that a word spoken at the right time is good and brings joy (Proverbs 15:23). How we use our words can make a great difference in those around us. Are we using our words to lift up people or do we use them to tear others down? One of the works of the fl esh is that of backbiting which destroys the unity needed in a relationship. It is too easy to fall in the trap of being negative and hateful with our words. Even to a point that people begin to avoid us, due to the poison that spews from our mouth. While I don't think we need to be guilty of fl attery, we should always look for ways to say something positive rather than leaving people with discouraging remarks. We all know how good it makes us feel when someone says something nice to us or gives us a compliment. Look at those around you today and see if there is anyone to whom you can give the "Gift of Words." Our words have the power to change a life if they are used in the right way.
