By Blair Martin Special to Conley Media CEDARBURG — On Sun- day Aug. 7 at 10 a.m., a new grandstand event will make its debut at the Ozaukee County Fair: McCade's Joyride Car Show. The Car Show was selected by the fair's board because of the unique entertainment value and meaningful pur- pose that it brings to the table. "We as a board tried to think of things that would be a good fit for our commu- nity," Christine Curran, Ozaukee County Fair Board member, said. "So we went to the drawing board and brainstormed a lot of differ- ent ideas." When the fair went with- out programming for a Sun- day grandstand event last year, the board noticed a positive change that influ- enced their decision mak- ing for this year. "We saw an increase in people enjoying other events that are so important to our fair, so we tried to be mindful of the size of the event that we chose for this year to try and keep that balance," Curran said. Enter Mason and Kerry Schubert: two Ozaukee County natives who lead the McCade's Joyride non- profit organization that organizes car shows and cruises to honor the late McCade Schubert while also raising awareness and funds through the Ameri- can Foundation for Suicide Prevention. "Those two have been trying to put on a show at the fairgrounds for years, and we thought that now more than ever would be a great time to collaborate with them," Curran said. The car show will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with awards given at 2 p.m.. The show is free for spectators; there is a $15 fee for anyone who wants to enter. All proceeds from the event will go to the American Foundation for Suicide Pre- vention. "We really pride our- selves on being a family fair which is why we focus so much on finding events that all age ranges can enjoy," Curran said. "I believe that the car show will be a great addition this year." Submitted photo Anyone can enter a vehicle for judging in McCade's Joyride Car Show.
