Fortunately for entrepreneurs in our state, the N.C. Department of Labor (NCDOL) offers free resources to businesses which allow them to identify and address potential safety hazards, all without the threat of incurring citations, penalties or fi nes. The NCDOL's Consultative Services Bureau, a branch of the Occupational Safety and Health division, provides these resources to employers in both the public and private sectors. In the private sector, consultation is limited to employers who have 500 or fewer employees nationwide. In the public sector, priority is given to smaller municipal, county and state agencies.
