Jim Koury is a seeker of personal truth, and desires to empower oth- ers to find their own personal truth, whatever it may be. He is also an ac vist who is not afraid to speak his mind, and ruffle some feath- ers, if necessary. His main objec ve is to get people to think and think for themselves. He espouses Aristotle's mantra, "It is the mark of an educated mind to en- tertain a thought without accep ng it." Jim does not force his views on others but just puts them out there for folks to think about and discard if they wish. Welcome to the July issue of Diversity Rules Maga- zine. It is hard to believe we are entering the 2nd half of 2022 already! The me is flying by. This month's feature is a very cool one, as it is about a movie that was shot very close to home -- up in the Albany, NY area. It is called A Las ng First Impres- sion. It stars Kelly Mantle as Charleigh, a cabaret per- former on a journey to self-acceptance and love af- ter being disowned and rejected by her parents and brother, David, for being a drag queen. When David is killed in an alleyway, his wife is given his cracked cell phone where she discovers texts between her husband and another woman. Assuming the mes- sages are from her dead husband's mistress, she con- fronts Charleigh at her place of work, a drag show palace. Thus begins a comedy of mistaken iden ty that would be hilarious if it weren't for all the pent- up emo ons from a trauma c past that both women are forced to confront in their fateful mee ng. There will also be a cast and crew screening of "A Las ng First Impression" at Waterworks Pub in Al- bany, NY on Friday, July 8th beginning at 8 pm. The film will be screened followed by Q&A and a DIVA DOLLS drag show. It should be a fun evening. If you can make it, please do! As you all know by now our Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade, a precedent according to women throughout the country access to abor ons. With the Court's idio c reversal, women now are at the whim of religious fana cs in each state who will decide whether or not abor on is to be legal. It is be- yond comprehension how a court can throw 50 years of legal precedent out the window. It is shameful and disgus ng. We must not let it stand. We need to get out and vote this fall and let the GOP know we are NOT going to take their religious zealotry any longer. Roe needs to be codified and the only way that will happen is if we all get out and VOTE. DO.NOT.ABDICATE.YOUR.DUTY.TO.VOTE! Be loud! Let the reprehensible minority that has managed to hijack America, despite an overwhelm- ing majority suppor ng the very rights the religious zealots now wish to take away, know you are not tak- ing their bullshit any longer. If for nothing else, get out and vote to preserve the rights the women most important in our lives, who are no longer here may not have had, as well as fu- ture genera ons of women who will be forced to be subjected to this nonsense because we sat on our asses and did nothing, and enabled them to hood- wink America because of apathy and indifference. Nothing will stop them now from coming a er every decision based on the right to privacy, same-sex mar- riage included. We CAN NOT be apathe c or indifferent any longer. Too much is at stake now! Mobilize NOW. Try to have a great July 4th, and see you in August! My Two Cents A Message From The Editor James R. Koury, Editor/Publisher Diversity Rules Magazine | July 2022 | 3
