Pike County Dustin Schnarr • Adam Scales (812) 354-8488 Pike Central boys finish 7th in Princeton sectional By James Capozella A third place finish by Bra- den Howald and advance- ments by Wyatt Frasure and Griffin Boyd highlighted Charger places in the Princ- eton Track and field section- al this past Thursday. Charger Head Track and Field coach Chris Kramer said Braden Howald was the only one to advance automat- ically by finishing in the top three of the pole vault with a height of 12 feet. Wyatt Frasure also ad- vanced to regionals in the 200 meter run due to other athletes scratching from the event. Griffin Boyd also ad- vanced to regional competi- tion in pole vault with a qual- ifying height of 11'6". Coach Kramer said sea- son-best performances were turned in by Howald in the 110 meter hurdles (18.20) and Wyatt Frasure in the 200 meter run (23.84). How- ald cleared 12 feet for a third place finish in the pole vault and teammate Griffin Boyd took fifth with a vault of 11 feet six inches. Frasure stepped up in the 200 dash, moving from sev- enth in the prelims to a tie for fourth with a 23.84 mark. Howald ran an 18.27 in the 110 hurdles finals race for eighth place. Freshman Ethan Mann taped 5'8" in the high jump claiming a fourth place fin- ish. Boyd placed 13th in the prelims of the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.30 and Izik Jackson was 18th in 13.40. Jackson also ran a 1:04.01 to 14th place in the 400 meter dash and had a 15'3.5" long jump for 20th with teammate Gabe Hinton 21st at 15'1". LADY CHARGERS ARE FOURTH AT SECTIONAL Three advance By James Capozella Even without any relay teams and a very small team in numbers, the Lady Char- gers bettered nine area teams for a fourth place finish in the Princeton Sectional, on Tues- day, May 17. Charger head coach Chris Kramer said "Three girls, Xavery Weis- man, Quinlan Teague and Er- ika Vinnedge, advanced to the regional." Kramer added, "Xavery and Quinlan each ran really good races in both the 1600 meter and the 3200 me- ter. Xavery got out in front in both races and held a comfort- able lead the entire time." Weisman was the section- al champion in the 3200 in 11:48.72; and Teague was in with a 12:05.36 for third place. Weisman ran a 5:24.69 for first in the 1600 meter run; and team mate Quinlan Teague was second, clocking 5:33.89. Erika Vinnedge made a toss of 32'3.25 to grab fourth in the shot put. Freshman Brelynn Myers had no distance. Vinnedge was sixth in the discus with a distance of 99'7"; while freshman Emma Hunt had no distance. Morgan An- derson had a fifth in the 100 meter hurdles, clocking 17.73 in the finals. Weisman cleared seven feet six inches in the pole vault for sixth place; and Ruby Sallee had no distance. Anderson took 10th in the 300 meter hurdles, clocking 53.92. Salle was 15th in the 100 me- Diamond girls run rule Tell City Williams and company net 11-0 win By James Capozella Thirteen hits featuring a fourth inning homer over the center field fence by Alyna Sharp turned the tide in fa- vor of the home standing La- dy Chargers in the final con- test of the regular season. The varsity only contest became a 10 -run rule win against the visiting Tell City Lady Pio- neers following a five-run fourth inning. Chloe Williams stifled Tell City batters early on with six strike outs in the first two innings of play. Wil- liams marked three more Ks in the score book, while scat- tering five hits and one walk among four batters. Lady Charger coach Dustin Traylor said, "Last week was a good week for us after the previous week. Both Evans- ville North and Tell City are solid teams and I felt like we controlled the tempo in both games. Chloe was dominate in the pitching rubber and our hitting has gotten back to where it was earlier in the season." Delaney Welch, Sophia Carnahan and Sharp notched doubles, and Karley Kavana- ugh tripled in a contest that was all about a team that can back up their pitcher, field the hard hits and get the most out of their bats. Lexie Onyett made a lot of the right calls, plus handled catching and the bat with two hits. Kavanaugh, Sharp, Carnahan, Onyett and Welch all had two hits apiece, and Carnahan garnered three RBIs. Kavanaugh lead with three RBIs, followed by Welch with two each. Avery Hunt, Sharp, Williams, Onyett and Tessa Vinnedge each pushed one runner across the plate. Dallas Reutepohler hands off to Peyton Chanley for the last exchange of Pike Central's 4x800 re- lay team that placed fifth in 9:44.89 at the track sectional. Xavery Weisman runs across the finish line of the 1600 in a time of 5:24.69. She won both the 1600 and 3200 at the Princeton track sectional. Charger Morgan Anderson clears a hurdle during the Princeton Track Sectional. Anderson placed fifth in the 100 hurdles in a time of 17.73.
