Car- nahan notched four strikeouts and just one walk, as the Char- gers played error less ball. Second inning walks is- sued to Macey Stilwell, Del- aney Welch and then Brailey Mills led to a Lady Charger 2-0 advantage when second baseman, Madelyn Fiscus, singled on the first pitch to right, driving in Stilwell and Welch. From then on Carna- han and company stifled the Forest Park Lady Rangers of- fense, and Charger bats de- livered a run in the third and then two in the sixth for the seven inning Pocket Athletic Conference win. Fiscus finished with three of the team's four RBIs while Delaney Welch drove in one and scored twice. First base- man Avery Hunt was two of two at the plate and scored once. Lexie Onyett, Alyna Sharp, Welch, Mills and Fis- cus each had hits with Welch, Stilwell, Hunt and Sharp crossing the plate, for the 5 - 0 win. The Lady Chargers were flawless in execution on the field, and Forest Park commit- ted just one error. Lady Char- ger catcher Lexie Onyett sin- gled to left in her first at bat and finished with one hit and a walk. Mills, Hunt and Welch were the others that strolled to first in the shutout. Hunt banged a double to right cen- ter in the third, and Onyett had the only stolen base after her first inning single to left. They played the number one 1A team, the number 1 2A team, and the number 4 3A team, and two other games jammed into the same week due to the weath- er early in the season. "Last week by far was the toughest part of our sched- ule," said Charger Coach Dustin Traylor. Last Tuesday the Chargers faced 18 -1 North Posey and fell 8 -0, as Erin Hoehn show why she is touted one of the top pitchers in the state. She struck out 14 and allowed on- ly two hits while shutting out the Chargers. "The North Posey pitcher is the real deal, and without question the best pitcher we faced all year. We still made them work for it, and played a good game overall I thought," said Charger Coach Traylor. Hoehn provided all the run support she needed for the game in the first inning. Bat- ting second, she hit a two-run shot over the centerfield in the bottom of the first inning. The Vikings added two more in the fourth inning and three in the sixth. CHARGERS FALL 10- 5 TO TECUMSEH On Wednesday the Char- gers faced 21-5 Tecumseh and mounted a seventh inning ral- ly, but it fell short 10 -5. Leading 1-0 the Braves broke the game open in the top of the third, as they scored three runs. The first run scored on a double error, then Ashtyn Green cleared the bases with a bomb over the centerfield fence for a 4-0 lead. The inning ended when Charger catcher Lexie Onyett cut down Bri Marx trying to steal second base. Pike Central got on the board in the bottom of the third, when Sophie Carnahan drilled a line drive to center- field, driving in Karley Kava- naugh who reached on a walk. Tecumseh added three more in the sixth inning and three in the seventh inning, making it a 10 -1 game. Pike Central fought back in the seventh, as Avery Hunt was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Delany Welch hit a single to left field. Tessa Vinnedge popped out to sec- ond for the first out, and Brai- ley Mills grounded into a field- ers choice. But the Chargers weren't done. Kavanaugh hit a lined a shot to left field for a double, to score both Mills and Welch. Onyett followed with a double, scoring Kavanaugh. Carnah- an singled, and Alayna Sharp singled to drive in Onyett. The rally and game ended with a fly-out to left field by Chloe Williams. "I felt this game could have went either way. We just didn't hit the ball well, until there at the end, and ended up losing 5 -10, but it could have easily been a one run game either way," said Coach Traylor. GIBSON SOUTHERN GRABS EARLY LEAD FOR 9-0 WIN Pike Central faced the red hot Titans whose relentless hitting propelled them to a 9 - 0 win over the Chargers, for their 17th consecutive win on Saturday. Gibson Southern scored two in the first as Brenna Blume, who is batting over .600 this season, hit a two-run double. In the third inning she crushed a two-run shot over the centerfield fence for a 4- 0 lead. They would add a fifth before the inning was over. They got three more in the fourth and one in the fifth for a 9 -0 lead. Pike Central threatened in the fifth and sixth inning, as they had bases loaded with one out in both innings, but couldn't push a run across the plate. "Gibson Southern is obvi- ously a solid team, but I don't feel like they are untouchable. We had our opportunities and just didn't capitalize," said Coach Traylor. "Sophie again threw a good game off the mound and made them put the ball in play. An error and a bad call led to four runs for them, and we left the bases loaded twice with one out each time. A timely hit in those spots makes that a one run game either way also," said Coach Traylor. He added, "We had had our bumps in the road, but then again we just played the best in Southern Indiana– #1 in 1A, #1 in 2A and #4 in 3A, all conference opponents.
