10 NORTH BAY WOMAN S P R I N G | S U M M E R 2 0 2 2 IN THIS ISSUE Nonprofit CEO Heidi Kuhn (left) and Marin Independent Journal Advertising Manager Lori Pearce at the cover photo shoot in January. – Photo by Trevor Henley | Desire to Inspire Studios Foundation M om life is tough and rewarding, fun and frustrat- ing — the best and worst job of all. The same lady can be confident in heels, comfy in slippers, is often tired, yet is always ready to help with homework, drive to soccer practice and make sure there is enough food on the table, whether it's takeout or classically prepared. She is ready to lead a confer- ence, take over the board room or fight for her nonprofit. We salute each and every one of you. You are amazing. Please take some time to enjoy the varied stories in this issue. While we usually focus on local topics, it seems fitting that our cover subject, Heidi Kuhn, has deep local roots that have spread globally. It was humbling to meet at her lovely home for the photo shoot, to see her beauty inside and out, to hear the passion she has for her family, and her vehement mission to help less fortunate families ravaged by war. Her many worldwide accolades still don't overshadow her first priority as a mom. She is a pioneer and an example of com- bining all parts of her life into one, even taking her daughter to minefields as a 'tween. She embodies the philosophy of leading by example. In a tribute, we celebrate one of Kuhn's best friends and mentors, the late Joan Capurro, who was also a true leader and shining star to so many. Thank you to my friend and another mentor, Cecilia Zamora, for her touching words about Capurro. Maternity fashions, baby showers and beyond, cooking with flowers, dealing with stretch marks, family style wine tasting, and spreading joy with a smile all make it into this issue. North Bay moms inspire throughout the issue. Pam Cook lauds the changes at a local dance studio, while Andrea Henderson, Heather Nelson-Tapia and Stephanie Sebastiani chronicle their motherhood journeys with honesty and hope. I commend their openness in fully sharing their struggles and triumphs. Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Diane Sartarelli, our production manager and this mag- azine's designer, who recently retired after 33 years at the Marin Independent Journal. Her countless hours of detailed hard work created and refined the design of North Bay Woman since its inception. Although she will be missed, we wish her all the best. Here's to strong women. May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them. – unknown Happy Mother's Day, Happy Mother's Day,
