alifornia is brimming with wineries ranging
from low key farms to high-end establish-
ments, and there really is something for
everyone. While most prefer wine tasting with
adults, sometimes children need to be includ-
ed in the adventure. There are opportunities for letting the
kiddos tag-along as many wineries offer bocce ball, large
scale yard games like checkers and jenga, along with kid
friendly snacks and coloring books to occupy the little
ones. Children must be well behaved and it is still advis-
able to bring along your own food, toys and gadgets to
keep them busy. Here are a few in our "grape" state that
combine wine tasting and family fun.

How about a zipline and a glass of wine? Yes, you can do
both in California's Central Coast. Enjoy agritourism at the
Santa Margarita Ranch with six different vineyard zipline
adventures or a wildlife tour before visiting the Ancient
Peaks cafe and tasting room.
Castello di Amorosa
4045 St. Helena Way, Calistoga

Goats, emus, peacocks, dogs, cats, pigs, sheep and
geese (oh my) all roam the castle property for your family
viewing pleasure. This authentically styled 13th Century
Tuscan castle boasts tours and tastings, and even has a
special children's tasting of non alcoholic Muscat grape
juice. For an added experience you can add chocolates to
your wine or juice tasting.
Cline Family Cellars
24737 Arnold Drive, Sonoma

This winery is visited by grade schoolers from across the
North Bay as part of the fourth grade California Mission
curriculum. In a building designed specifically as a muse-
um, there are 21 California missions that were built to scale
for the 1939 California Pacific Exhibition on display. The
beautiful grounds also provide picnic tables, large grassy
areas, a koi pond and farm animals for quality family time
amid a few, hopefully relaxing, sips for mom and dad.
