"It was a great game," said Charger Coach Dustin Traylor. "They beat us last year in the regional and went on to win the 3A state championship. So it was great to be able to beat them on their field," said Traylor. Pike Central showed up with hot bats on the cold, windy Saturday morning. The game was originally scheduled to be played Friday night, but instead was moved to Saturday due to weather. Despite the game be- ing at Boonville, Pike Central was the home team. Boonville started the scoring in the top of the first when Becca Campbell hit a double. Sophie Carnahan, pitching for the Chargers, got Chloe Apple out on come-back to the pitcher and Camp- bell advanced to third, then scored on a Ashton Pryor sacrifice fly to center. Trailing 1-0 to start the bottom of the first, the Lady Chargers wasted no time jumping on Boonville. Briley Mills led off with a walk. Then Kar- ley Kavanaugh doubled to right field, advancing Mills to third. Kavanaugh would go 5 for 5 on the day. Chloe Williams walked and So- phie Carnahan lined a single to cen- ter field, scoring Mills and Kavana- ugh. Haylie Fulcher was inserted as a courtesy runner for Carnahan, who was 3 for 3 on the day. Alaina Sharp singled to load the bases. Avery Hunt was hit by a pitch al- lowing Williams to score, and the oth- er runners to advance to second and third. Delaney Welch then singled on a hard hit grounder to left field that scored Fulcher. Madelyn Fiscus hit a sharp ground- er to the third basemen, who went home with the throw to get Hunt at the plate for the first out. The next two batters struck out, but not before Pike Central had tak- en a 4-1 lead. "We jumped on them quickly and sent 10 batters to the plate," said Tray- lor of the Chargers posting a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. "I wanted to make sure we kept our foot on the pedal and kept push- ing, because Boonville is a good team and they aren't going to give up," said Traylor. SECOND INNING Carnahan sat down the Pioneers in order in the top of the second in- ning, and the Chargers continued to pound the ball. Kavanaugh led off the bottom of the second with a single. Williams hit a fly to center that dropped. Ka- vanaugh advanced to third and Wil- liams tried to stretch her single into a double, but was thrown out at sec- ond. Kavanaugh took advantage and scored on the play for a 5 -1 lead. Carnahan got the rally restart- ed with a single to left field, which brought up Sharp. She promptly pounded a pitch over the center field fence to clear the bases making it a 7-1 lead. THIRD INNING Boonville started the top of the third with the leadoff batter getting on board with an error and advanc- ing to second. They scored two runs on another hit and error before Carnahan shut them down, making it 9 -3. Tessa Vinnedge opened the bottom of third inning with a single for the Chargers. Mills hit a grounder to the short- stop who tried to throw out Vinnedge at second but wasn't in time, leaving runners on first and second. Kavanaugh then laid a beautiful bunt down the first baseline that ad- vanced both runners and allowed her to reach first safely to load the bases Chloe Williams takes a big cut during the Chargers' loss to Daviess County, KY on Saturday.
