One of the most famous families to succeed in the reality-show genre is returning to it with a new series as "The Kardashians" begins streaming Thursday, April 14, on Hulu. Work and personal lives share the focus again as Kris Jenner, Kourtney Kardashian, Kim Kardashian West, Khloe Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner all are in the spotlight again – not that they've ever really been out of it since the end of their earlier, Ryan Seacrest-produced E! Entertainment Television program. Caitlyn Jenner is noticeably absent from "The Kardashians," having stated support for the new venture publicly, tweeting: "Happy that it continues for my family." Still, there's enough to spice up the two seasons of a total 40 episodes ordered thus far, including Kourtney's relationship with musician fiance Travis Barker and her current ties to her ex, Scott Disick. The status of Khloe and Tristan Thompson also is expected to be considered. Even before "The Kardashians" premieres, certain family members have been stirring controversy anew. In a recent magazine article, Kim offered some rather candid advice to women in business, counseling them to get up and work ... and earning herself some criticism from respondents including Meghan McCain, who noted that both she and Kardashian had grown up in lives of privilege and didn't necessarily understand workplace issues that others might face. Some of the relatives have suggested that by making a deal with a streaming service, they can venture into content that basic cable wouldn't allow for. Their new deal with Hulu apparently gives them more creative control, something that surely would appeal to business people ... and if the Kardashians have anything, it's a taste for business. In fact, the arrival of "The Kardashians" could well be remembered later as the moment when the streaming universe broke open to established personalities on a new level. And as they write a new chapter for themselves, they also could be writing a new one on where others can carry and keep growing an audience as well.
