Probably the most commonly asked ques- tion of a seven year old is, "What do you want to be when you grow up? " Usually the one in- quiring must resort to a form of interrogation: "a doctor, lawyer, policeman; I know, a fire- man! " These are noble professions indeed, but why are children almost never encouraged to pursue the ministry? Is the Lord's work any less meaningful? Are the callings of pastor, evangelist, missionary, and Christian counsel- or unworthy of our children's consideration? Parents do well to remember that there is no higher calling in life than the Lord's service. Sadly, our young people are so precondi- tioned to aspire to worldly professions that they don't even consider the ministry a via- ble option. Timothy's mother had no way of knowing whether God would call her son into full-time service. But to her credit, she trained Timothy from a small child in the Scriptures to prepare him for the things of the Lord. Shortly after his conversion to Christ, he was called in- to the ministry, where he delivered many from a Christless eternity (2 Timothy 1:6). We'll do our best to write something though. The local Lions club had a food vendor truck parked at the Presbyterian Church parking lot. We would like to thank everyone who had a part in helping us. The church was gracious enough to allow us use of their parking lot and for Oakland City Lions: Dale and Sue Leffler for helping us with the cooking and the use of their trailer. I don't know if we made much money or not but there was several hotdogs and brats sold while we were open. Hopefully we will be able to do this project again sometime. The Timeless Car Club is considering adopt- ing the levee display of Christmas in the park light display. We are trying to get all the mea- surements necessary to rebuild each segment of the display so we can get an estimate on what it will cost. It is a very beautiful display but it is an expensive display which is hard to erect and tear down without doing damage to it. We are attempting to come up with a plan to be able to assemble and take down this display without the damage. We will arrive at a solu- Upcoming Events Winslow Christian Church to host Good Friday community service The Winslow Christian Church, corner of Lafayette and Walnut, in Winslow will be hosting a Good Friday com- munity service on Friday, April 15 at 7 p.m. It will feature a costumed dramatic monologue about Lazarus, whom Jesus raised from the dead. Everyone is cordially invit- ed to attend. The war between Russia and the Ukraine is entering its second month. One ongoing dai- ly miracle is we have avoided nuclear war—so far. The leader of the Ukraine continues to de- mand NATO forces come to his rescue, know- ing this escalation would lead to World War. The only aid he is receiving are words of en- couragement, some munitions, and humani- tarian aid. Sadly, few governments are talking about peace. Most are talking fight until the last man standing wins. The Ukrainian war has become the back- drop for people wondering about the end-times and Armageddon. There are plenty of experts on Christian T V, the Internet, and in print who have it all figured out and can enlighten you with their wisdom. There's no shortage of false prophets predicting the end of the world. In modern times, William Miller, whose fol- lowers became known as the Millerites, de- clared publicly his belief that the Second Ad- vent of Jesus Christ would occur between 1843- 1844. He eventually declared the date to be October 22, 1844. Many people believed his predictions. Countless people sold their pos- sessions, quit their jobs, and made ready for his return. Like all predictions, the expected day came and went and no Jesus. It became known as the "Great Disappointment." You would think people would quit predicting the end of the world, but humans are slow learners. We need to remind ourselves of something Jesus said: "But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father." Mt 13:32. Paul understood this when he wrote, "For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night." 1Th 5:2. Steve Selby, Pastor Elaine Barrett, Reporter GLEZEN G.B. CHURCH Corner of Center and Sycamore Sunday school 9:30 a.m.; morning worship 10 :30 a.m. This Wednesday will be our monthly business meeting at 6:30 p.m. Remember those on our prayer list, the shut ins and our lost loved ones. We have the apostle Paul's encouragement in Philippi- ans 4:7, "And the peace of God, which passeth all un- derstanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." The peace be- lievers have in Christ is se- cure, and it is way beyond our human understanding. God says, it's a matter of faith in His Word more than a matter of fully understanding it. A fter Jesus shared with His disciples about his coming be- trayal, He told them, "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid" ( John 14:27). We live in a troubled world infested with sinful lifestyles, causing even believers to fear. But we can trust and safely rest in the Lord, relying upon His Word as we read it each day. Then our greatest de- sire can be fulfilled—living a Christ-like lifestyle that at- tracts fearful people to the Christ who can remove all their fears.
