Crest High School inducted 28 seniors. CTEHS recognizes the achievements of outstand- ing students in Career & Technical Education. Stu- dents must be a senior who has demonstrated academic excellence and good char- acter, must have taken four or more CTE courses (one being an advanced level course), and maintain a re- quired GPA of 3.5 or above. There are several benefi ts for CTEHS members. Stu- dents receive a certifi cate of membership and a seal that is placed on their diploma. They also have an opportu- nity to win a scholarship of- fered only through CTEHS. This year's $500 recipient is Dalton Cooper. CTEHS members wear purple and white honor cords at gradu- ation. The Commit- ment program supplements the federal Pell grant and ex- isting aid by providing an ad- ditional $700 to $2,800 grant per year. To date, over 11,600 students have received a Longleaf Commitment grant totaling more than $4,600,000. 70% of the grants have gone to students with family incomes less than $60,000. Over 430 Central Carolina Community College students have received a Longleaf Commitment grant totaling more than $244,000. "Our community col- leges are preparing people for the jobs of today and to- morrow," Governor Cooper said. "These Longleaf Com- mitment community college grants are already helping to make education more afford- able, so students can gain the skills and training they need to succeed." At Governor Cooper's di- rection, the Longleaf Commit- ment Program was created last year for 2021 high school graduates and funded by the Governor's Emergency Edu- cation Relief (GEER) funds. In November 2021, the Gov- ernor signed the bipartisan state budget into law which expands the Longleaf Com- mitment Program to include 2022 high school graduates. Eligible high school se- niors can apply for the Long- leaf Commitment grant by filling out the Free Applica- tion for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form and enrolling in a community college.
