The one-hour special, hosted by Emmy-winning dancers and choreographers (and siblings!) Julianne Hough ("Rock of Ages," 2012) and Derek Hough ("The Queen Family Sing- along," 2021), airs Sunday, March 20, on the alphabet net- work. The special features reimag- ined performance numbers from musical classics such as "Singing in the Rain" (1952), "Beauty and the Beast" (1991), "Dirty Dancing" (1987), "Chicago" (2002) and more. It's any movie musical buff's dream and an ode to the near century-old tradition of the Oscars. Julianne and Derek Hough are more than familiar with the fantastical elements of song and dance. Both have ap- peared in "Dancing with the Stars" as professional dancers, while Julianne has danced in Disney singalong videos and Derek is slated to begin his Las Vegas residency at the Vene- tian Resort in May. A song is born: Premiering on NBC Monday, March 21, is America's newest songwriting competition, "American Song Contest." Modeled after Eu- rope's long-running and groundbreaking "Eurovision Song Contest," "American Song Contest" is on the look- out for America's next big origi- nal hit. Sure to be one of America's biggest live entertainment events, the contest features the best original songs from each of the 50 states.
