This meeting was held in Arden, NC, about 20 min- utes outside Asheville, at their town hall meeting. Numerous crucial ac- tors that have worked on this issue in North Caro- lina were present at the conference. Some of the groups that were in at- tendance include: Kathy Yurista of Awake & Bold, Forrest Sealey of the Veterans For Child Res- cue, and Jason Sisneros. Many other non-profit organizations contest- ing human trafficking in North Carolina were also in attendance. The group discussed current steps that have been taken to contest human traffick- ing. Senator Alexander was extremely proud to announce the progress he and the NCGA have made towards combat- ting human trafficking in North Carolina. Senator Alexander states, "The lives of so many of God's children depend on this cancer being permanently removed from society." These vital steps taken are not the end. The delib- eration of future plans and the exchange of contact information ensures these actors will stay connected as they continue the fight. Photo provided The non-profit or- ganization Awake & Bold have commenced a new program (Open Your Eyes Campaign) to educate the public on human trafficking. It has implemented the image displayed above on bill- boards across the state to make the North Caro- lina public aware of cries for help. Additionally, vid- eos are being dispersed to educate the public of this pertinent issue in North Carolina. Working in conjunction with local law enforcement agents and State Bureau of Investigation agents, Awake & Bold hopes to decrease the number of yearly cases of human traf- ficking. The billboard pres- ents different hand signals to demonstrate that a case of human trafficking is oc- curring. By recognizing these displayed hand sig- nals, law enforcement will then be able to act. The signals are pre- sented above. They are a thumb tucked into your palm, followed by a closed fist. If you witness these signals being performed, please do not hesitate to contact your local law en- forcement.
