Born in Polk County, TN, on October 5, 1948, he was the son of the late John Raymond Kearley and Helen Golden Kearley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Kearley. Survivors include his wife, Katherine Morrow Kearley; daughter, Cynthia Ann Simmons and husband, Michael of Vale; daughter- in-law, Melissa Ann Kearley; sister, Joan Arp of Atlanta, Georgia; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. SUMMER LEIGH SHIRES PIERCE Summer Leigh Shires Pierce, age 44, passed away on Friday, February 25, 2022. Summer was born April 24, 1977, to the late Alfred Dean Shires and Christy Gillespie Shires of Forest City, NC. Those left to cherish fond memories of Summer are her sons, Hayden, Chase and DJ; mother, Christy Gillespie Shires; and her grandparents. A private service was offi- ciated by Reverend Andy Evans and Reverend Ernie Holland. A private burial followed at Spindale City Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her father, Alfred Shires. Born in Cleveland County, on April 3, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Coy Clingman Daves and Essie Elizabeth Wiggins Daves. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Mearil Jimmie Brown; stepson, Billy Brown; five brothers, Paul C. Daves, Robert "Bob" L. Daves, Floyd F. Daves, Zane Daves, and Charles "Bud" M. Daves; and two sisters Virginia D. Gantt and Marie D. Norman. She is survived by her son, Timothy S. Brown of Charlotte; two stepchildren, Melvin Brown and wife, Lynn and Kathy Brown and husband, Matt both of York, SC; three sisters, Jewel D. Canipe of Casar, Ann D Faggart of Concord and Gilda D. Hunt and hus- band Steve of Polkville; and numerous step-grandchil- dren and step-great-grand- children. Wilma was born February 14, 1939 to the late Ida Ruth Edwards Lawter and Farris Lawter in Polk County, NC. Left to cherish her memo- ry are her husband, Dewey Dotson; son, Tony Dotson; sister, Janice Graham; brother, Roger Lawter; and three grandchildren. She was predeceased in death by her son, Ricky; sisters: Betty Jean Pierce and Jewel Wisnant; and brothers: Joseph "Bo" Lawter, Farris "Jack" Lawter, Charles "Smug" Lawter and Billy "Cab" Lawter. GERALD AUSTIN JONES Gerald Austin Jones, 89, of Shelby, passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2022. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Paris and Lilly Carroll Jones. Mr. Jones served our country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his wife, Elizabeth "Lib" Greene Jones; and brother, Charles Jones. He is survived by his daughter, Vickie Murray and husband, Alan of Waco; son, Andy Jones and wife, Jill of Jonesborough; four grand- children; four great grand- children; sister, Dorothy Jones Helton; and sister-in- law, Sally Dixon Jones. TED M. BEVERLY Ted M. Beverly, 80, of Lake Wateree and formerly of Blacksburg, passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2022. He was the son of the late Ted R. Beverly and Katherine P. Beverly. He is survived by his wife, Sheila Mullinax Beverly; four sons: Mike Beverly (Lexie), Pat Beverly, Payton Beverly, and Alan Beverly (Jennifer), and a daughter, Leslie Broome (Edwin); twelve grandchildren; a sister, Suellen Beverly of Lincoln, VA, and eighteen great- grandchildren. BETTY HOWELL BRACKETT Mrs. Betty Howell Brackett, 92, of Cherryville, passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2022. Mrs. Brackett was born on July 25, 1929 in Cleveland County, a daughter of the late Thomas Grover Howell, Sr. and Bessie Hardin Howell. In addition to her par- ents she was preceded in death by her husband, M.L. "Red" Brackett; a son, Skeet Brackett; sisters, Louise Shull, Marie Wortman, Esther McMurray; broth- ers, Marion Howell, Dewey Howell, Winfred Howell, Sr., T. G. Howell, Jr. and Robert Howell, Sr.; and two infant brothers.
