No matter who you are, you must eat! But, is a financial hardship standing in your way of buying food? The Neal Center's Food Pantry can help! PLEASE HELP US REFILL IT! Food is one of the necessities of life, but for some in hard economic times, it's very hard to keep their pantry stocked. This is where the Neal Center's Food Bank can be of assistance! However, we can't keep it stocked completely on our own. The Neal Center welcomes donations of food for those affected by economic difficulties. Among the most popular food items that are distributed include: Vienna sausages, miniature canned hams, salmon, beef stew, corned beef, saltine crackers, canned fruits and vegetables, shelf-stable pasta, spa- ghetti sauce, rice, noodles, cereal and oatmeal. Please be sure that the items being donated are well within their expiration dates on the item. Items donated to the center that have expired cannot be given out. We are unable to accept refrigerated items. If you'd prefer making a cash donation, it would be very welcome! When writing your check, be sure to indicate that your donation is for "The Food Pantry". While our facility is still closed to the public, we are able to accept donations, Monday – Thursday, from 8:30 am – 2:30 pm. Please call us at 704-482-3488 to arrange a time to drop off your donation. Show Your Appreciation! SAY "THANK YOU" TO OUR NC LEGISLATORS FOR FUNDING THE NEAL CENTER! The Neal Senior Center is joining hundreds of older adults from senior centers from across NC to mail "thank you" notes to our legislators. The note includes a "Thank You" for funding senior centers, along with a personal state of "What this continued funding means to us." Federal, state and local funding is vital to the Neal Center's ongoing programs, which allows our seniors to participate in free or low-cost affordable activities and access needed services. This special spring event shows our older adult's appreciation and keeps our senior center on the minds of our legislators. Join the Neal Senior Center for this special spring event! This event is in partnership with the North Carolina Senior Center Alliance, which coordinates events for the 163 senior centers across NC. The goal of the statewide event is to give one voice to senior centers. We will begin our writing project on Thursday, March 3. What to do? Simply come by the Reception Desk at Neal Senior Center, 100 T.R. Harris Drive, Shelby, NC between March 3 and March 21. Pick up a "thank you" card and write a personal note to your legislator. Leave it with the Reception Desk and the center will mail it for you. The Neal Senior Center is a place for citizens age 50 and better to meet new friends, maintain an active lifestyle and connect to services. Some of the center's programs and opportunities include volunteering, health and wellness, arts, education and social events.
